In Your Opinion, How Should A Photographer Dress?

As ^, i am wondering what kind of clothes i should wear to best suit my occupation as a photographer and to say to the world that i am a professional and that i take my work seriously, i have an idea of getting my name and details printed onto a shirt or jacket but then there’s weddings which may require me to blend in more with the guests which would mean wearing a suit and tie?

What’s your opinion, how do you dress for different events, from school photo’s, to fairs to weddings?

I think it depends on the event and what you’ve said above is in line with my thoughts. Suit for weddings and similar events, a branded jacket / shirt for non-official events is a very good idea. I think it is important to look the part and it might just make the difference between you getting the job and not getting the job.

I think dressing appropriately for each shoot would be the best choice ie wearing a suit at a wedding or waterproofs at an outdoor sporting event etc. Being neatly dressed, whatever the occasion won’t necessarily make you stand out as “a professional”, but in the eyes of your clients, it will give an impression that you care about your appearance & therefore will probably care about your work too.
I believe that having a confident approach will do more for your business than how you are dressed or what equipment you use. If you look like you know what you’re doing when handling your camera gear & have a professional attitude when discussing assignments etc
How you are dressed shouldn’t really matter, so long as you are neat. Dressing comfortably will also be an important consideration. Overdone branding on clothing can give an impression of “I’m new at this”, whereas, discreet branding can give an impression of professionalism. Just my thoughts.

I agree with Seaview, when i work at wedding i wear a suit, tie and waistcoat, i blend in nicely. when i do niteclubs i dress down, casual. when i do family portraits or communions i wont wear a tracksuit lol i dress as i want to blend in with the crowd……

Do what you think and what you are comfortable with

Only real event I did was a wedding and while I hated it I dressed up, shoes, shirt, dress pants, even had a jacket but it was 40 degrees out so that stayed in the car. If your working with models you can be more relaxed, long as your not sitting around with no pants on and a dirty tshirt. Long as you look respectable I guess thats all you need to do. Some people will feel less comfortable if your dressed better then them. Think job interview, but with a friend interviewing you :)
