Pretty lady-
Looks like a big softbox?
I think it might have been better if it had been just a little higher,
those shadows seem to be creeping up her face a bit-
and the whites of her eyes look very bright…Although there is a place for very close up pictures,
and I’ve done a few myself,
I think that allowing more space around your subject allows more attitude to show through-
and might have made more sense of the tilt of the head-Good colour, good overall, though saying just that night not have been fair, on me or you-

johnnymcParticipantThanks Joseph,
I appreciate your taking time to reply.
Yes, it was a large softbox, and unfortunately that was as high as I could put it due to the location (shot a couple of years ago in a shed with a low ceiling).
Inez is a very pretty lady and her eyes are amazing, which probably led me to the close up shot. I like your point regarding space/attitude.
Best regards,
John
JohnnyMcMillanParticipantWait…there’s another JohnnyMc?! ;)
The one thing I must say about this portrait (which is a personal thing more than anything with what alot of folks do sometimes) is forget that certain people might not have the same screen resolutions as you might. Hence when I open up this page all I get to see is a forehead until I scroll down. Personally I think images are best displayed when you can see the whole image in it’s entirety without the need to scroll up or down, left or right, because it just simply won’t do the image justice. Hope that makes sense!
miki gParticipantHi John. A lovely looking girl with beautiful eyes. I feel though that this image is shot too close for my liking as it feels cramped for space. I think that the highlights in her lip gloss is a bit distracting and I would prefer catchlights in her eyes to add sparkle to them. That being said though, it is a lovely portrait. Well done
johnnymcParticipantThanks Johnny and Miki.
It’s great getting feedback as it makes you look at you images from perspectives that you may never have thought of. I use a 24′ screen and never considered why some people posted images in small sizes. I understand now! Johnny…..I’m Johnny McMahon…… the REAL JohnnyMc!!!
Your points Mike regarding the cramped feeling is totally valid. I have built a studio at home and I’m not as pressurized space wise as I was a couple of years ago. I think I was just after getting the canon 70-200 F2.8l IS lens and wanted to use it for the shoot. Given the fact that I had a 20d at the time (cropped sensor), my back was up against the wall taking the photo!! Inez was a beautiful model (still is), and I was struck by her eyes when i re-discovered the image, hence posting it.
Appreciate both your comments,
Best regards,
John
