Infra-red Abbey

Hi folks –
Considering this as part of an awards panel, looking for impartial feedback as I suspect I like it more than is warranted... or in high contrast B&W ..
Looking at those, in the small sizes the Abbey is a bit too indistinct. Here’s a pano:
Cheers,
PeterPuckpicsMembercrop 3 is my favourite of the three, but the image I would not vote for this image as a winner the colour range is too flat – some burn / dodge work is needed… sorry but you have asked for opinions
nfl-fanParticipantPeter,
My initial thought was “At the size presented the Abbey is too indistinct” and then I noticed that you had said exactly the same thing yourself.
The conversion in #2 looks a tad on the flat side for my liking.
The panoramic version is the standout of all 3 and gives the Abbey a lot more defintion in the composition. I’d imagine they would look very good printed, but it really is hard to tell at the size presented.

Alan RossiterParticipantI’d go for the second one Peter. The first – the colour doesn’t work for me. The third – the most positive aspect of the first two is the clouds which bounce in IR but they’re missing. I’d do a bit of burning in the second, especially around the sky and abbey.

petercoxMemberThanks as always for the quick and honest feedback. I’ve decided to drop it from the panel. This is one of those cases where I can see the potential of the subject, but this particular shot didn’t capture it.
I suspect if the foreground was lit it would work, but with the flat dark foreground it just doesn’t sing. I’d also prefer for the Abbey to be unobscured by trees, but there was no composition where I had that and a pleasing foreground too.
Definitely needs burning around the foreground as well, those versions are far too flat in terms of contrast.
Cheers,
PetermcmartinParticipantfishjam45ParticipantPeter,
You have been good enough to comment on my work lately so I’ll return the favour . . .
Number 3 is my favourite of the three shots, but its a pity the trees in the foreground are blocking the full view of the Abbey.
Number 2 is the most natural lookin shot though, whereas in 1 and 2 the Abbey looks somewhat superimposed?
just my opinion anyway:)
