Infra Red conversion in Ireland?

Does anyone know of companies in Ireland that do Infra Red conversions? I want to get a Canon 40D and a Nikon D200 converted and would prefer to give the business to an Irish company.

If I have to send to the UK does anyone have experience of dealing with companies across the pond?

If you’re stuck, you do know that you may not need one done. If you can live with an almost totally dark (read: useless) image in your optical finder, just screw an IR filter into whatever lens you’re using…set your camera on a tripod, compose through the finder and check via LCD (unless you got live-view :) ) The upshot is that you can still use your camera for visible light, right? I’ve only done it on a digital compact, but it worked well for me.

Thanks for that. We are planning to get those filters for students to use on their own cameras but we also want to convert a Canon 40D and a Nikon D200 over to IR for loan to students.

BTW Where did you get your filters?

The guys who where doing the sensor cleaning at the trade show in croke park last year do ir conversions
I think they were an english out-fit but
They favored D200s for the conversions I remember them saying

I personally hate IR filters! too much trouble to work with and AF isn’t very accurate and you need to deal with long exposures ALL the time. Sometimes it’s good, but not always – well not not for me. And not al lenses work well with IR filters.

With a converted camera you can shoot as “normal”.

Just my opinion – test the filters and see what you think.

    Hi Dave,

dealt with ACS in Norfolk (http://www.advancedcameraservices.co.uk/” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false;)for converting a Canon 40D to IR . Camera works great & is great fun to use, though results are very hit & miss (blame myself… not the camera)

took a bit longer than expected, but I blame the Xmas period and the subsequent flooding for that. Announced Lead times is 4 weeks , mine took 8.

also got an IR flood light from them
