Innocence

I’m not very confident when it comes to portraits and most of the few I have are spur of the moment shots. This was taken in a friends house when I was shooting some concertinas on a kitchen table. His daughter sat there intriuged at what was going on. I turned the camera and snapped this. C & C welcome.

Danny that is an interesting crop, but I think I need to see the eyes if the portrait is really going to reach out of the screen and grab my attention. :shock:
A smile or a smirk on the face might be cool with this crop, to add a bit more of the subjects personality, which the eyes normally provide.
This is so cute Valentia. I would personally crop it a bit tighter to eliminate the dark area under the eyes and have the image as symmetric as possible.

Photography. like most art, is a strange beast. I think it is so hard to judge ones own work because we know the model, the scene, whatever, that the personal relationship makes it so difficult to be objective. I really appreciate everyones comments but I still find it difficult to see it any other way than I saw it. Sometimes I think that I (we maybe) post pictures in the hope that we will get a response from someome we feel is the same wavelength as ourselves? I dunno. Jarred now and my Dad died last week so feeling melancholy but I do think creativity is very personal.
This photo, to me, captures this amazing kid just as I saw it. I know there are technical defecincies but the one phrase that I have seen here (normal conventions) really shouldn’t apply to anything.
A ramble I know but there you are :)
The first thing that strikes me is the beautiful and realistic skin tones. Agree with Ali that cropping below the eye lines would make it better.

Thanks ellude. I still see the darkness in the bit below the eyes saying that among the innocence is a worrier. Thanks for your comment on dad. Strange times.

I see that now, although maybe the mouth says it too. It’s a great picture and I’m sure has special meaning at this time.
Thought provoking picture. Sod technicalities, it made moe look for some time. That’s the biggest compliment I can give you.
