Insurance ! !

I happened to be out on Monday night and ended up in the company of a solicitor and an insurance consultant (not sure what that is !) and needless to say, the discussion eventually turned to insurance. I learned a few things that made me think. A home insurance police – public liability – may not cover people who come on to your property if you are intending to do a commercial transaction with them, eg sell them your second hand car or such like. (This is not always the case – but some policies can be like that). Another one – when you put up a sign like “beware of dog” you may just increase your liability as you are now making a public statement that your dog may be dangerous. Such signs do not deminish your liability in any way whatsoever as you have a duty of care to all who enter your property – even if uninvited !. Strange little world we have.
Is it possible Gerry to get unbiased advice on this kind of issue? Can we rely on insurance companies and brokers to walk us through the pros and cons of a policy?
You got a point there…..looks like when your covered , you may well not be…LOL. I think its often best to not think too deeply about the whole thing. I often feel we can’t rely on salespeople, eg brokers, as some can treat you as another sale and “next customer, please”.
