Introducing Bailey…

    Here’s the thing…

Not so long ago, well, almost seven weeks ago, a terrible thing
    happened and the lovely Holly…

    was lost to us…

It’s been a bit tough, not just for us, but also for our other dog, Jaz the Springer.
She’s been pretty lonely, especially at night after eight years of sharing her bed
with Holly, and she’s been whingeing a lot for attention…

So to cut a long story down to size, today I went to the dog pound and found
a new friend for her. Excuse the quality of the picture but it was taken with an
iPhone just for convenience. I will post a proper portrait of her at a later date…

Allow me to introduce Bailey the Rottweiler, six months old and charming as hell.
A Rottweiler with a tail no less, and a tale too I’m sure…

How people can just abandon such beautiful animals is beyond me…

Well I wouldn’t dare say anything bad about her…

Best of luck with her Rob,
and if I were Jaz, I might just be a little wary of invitations to do lunch…

Hey Rob, I’m such a sucker for dogs, it just drives me crazy to see them abandoned too! When the pic opened at first I thought…oh my…what a confident looking Rottweiler! But she’s got a sweet face. I’m sure she’ll be right at home with you and Jaz. Is that a bandana she’s wearing?

Looking forward to seeing the portrait!

    Hi Rob,

Thanks for sharing the story and I hope things
    work out well.

There are some very strange and cruel people in the
world but it looks as if at least one unfortunate dog
    has just become very fortunate.

    Well done.

    John.

    Thanks Joseph, Michelle and John…

Yes Michelle, a little red bandana. The missus thought it was cute,
and I think I may agree with her…

Rotties get a lot of bad press Joseph, a problem that arises on account of
their owners trying to eke out two disparate personalities from one poor
animal – family pet and killer guard dog to protect all their wordly goods.
I love dogs, but I’ll be the first to admit they ain’t smart enough to multitask.
Want a family pet? Teach your dog to be calm, submissive, and a follower.
She’s gonna be a big lump of a thing, but I reckon with the right treatment
and a proper setting of boundaries she’ll be like a teddy bear in a couple
    of months…

Sounds Good Rob and congrats, they are hopefully gonna have great craic together!

Keep a good eye on them for the first while just to oversee how the two interact.
I remember last year when Meself and the better half went on holidays we left
sam with the Mayo spca where we got him. We told the lady there to keep an eye out
    for a friend for Sam.

During the holiday I rang back just to see how himself was getting on, I was told
he was getting on famously with a female collie, great!

When we came back to collect the 2 dogs we were in the yard about 1 minute and
Sam absolutely went into attack mode and drew blood from the other collie!
We recon he was trying to protect us from her or possibly jealous too.

Anyway it is terrible how pets are neglected . . . especially Greyhounds, although
they are seldom used or treated as pets.
This is me other dog who lives with my brother’s dog.
Monty was seriously neglected to the point of emaciation about 4-5 years ago.
Greyhounds are probably the worst treated dog.
I have seen pictures of hounds thrown into water with breeze blocks tied around their
necks . . . ill stop there it does get worse.

Anyway Rob I hope Bailey has a great time with Jaz and the family and fits in
with no hassle! OOoohhhh she is a cutie.

    Congratulations Rob,

    Lovely looking dog.
I’d love to have a dog myself, but no place at the moment. I used to have a dog, years ago, I adopted it from family members who got it and grew bored with it.

I hope it all works out well,

    Ah so that’s Bailey :D

She’s a handsome looking girl Rob and something tells me she’ll be improving your fitness levels over the coming months. She looks like she’s gonna need lots of big long walks.

She’s a real poser for the camera too… wont be too hard to eke a nice portrait out of her :D

Aw, she looks sweet Rob… Best of luck with her.

I’ll admit I have a fear of Rothweilers, something I need to overcome.
I do agree with your point about where most of the bad press comes from, some people get breeds like this as an extension to their ego,
I firmly believe there are no bad dogs, just bad owners (maybe that’s where the fear comes from).

My grandmother had a Rothweiler/Lab cross called, Harley for years, she was the sweetest thing, but her tail was like a weapon of mass destruction!! lol!!
She was so good for her, it still breaks her heart that she’s gone…

I think your on the right track with your thoughts on teaching her to be calm, but it’s not always easy, especially with a rescue dog.
I would strongly suggest you read ‘The Art of Raising a Puppy’ and ‘How To Be Your Dog’s Best Friend’ by The Monks Of New Skete
I have both, your welcome to borrow mine, I could give them to you at the LoFi exchange if you like?

Fitness levels Robbie? Remember, I’ve already got a Springer Spaniel,
and just ask Sinead – there’s no dog with more energy than one of those.
Bailey should be a piece of cake…

Thanks Sinead. That would be great if I could borrow those books from
    you at the LoFi exchange…
