Hi all,
Just thought it would be interesting to see each others first pic, the pic which you took that gave you the buzz and drive for Photography.
*Edit* No need to scrutinize or apply any critique to any pic here, its just an outlet for sharing those special images ! should be some nice browsing
material here after a while. This is my one!
It was a self portrait taken around 1991 with my first camera an Olympus point and shoot.
This weird and wonderfull snap was taken through a HOLSTEN PILLS bottle, pointing the camera
lens through the open end of the bottle, pot luck really but when I got it back from SPECTRA PHOTO
it really gave me a buzz and got me really snapping.

Alan RossiterParticipantTowards the end of 2006 I was getting tired with cycle racing. Too much time training with not much rewards. I was looking for a new hobby and had liked photography from many years back with a few different types of camera. So I looked at photography as a new venture and when I saw the image below it blew me away and set me on my way. I said that if I could do anything like it, I’d be happy. Painting or drawing was frustrating as I couldn’t get my hand to go where my eye wanted so photography semed to be the solution.
Anyway, the image is from a gent called Martin Doyle, a goldsmith from Wexford who is a previous national gold medal winner in the IPF. His portrayal of light and composition still draws my attention.Alan
aoluainParticipantHey Alan,
Beautiful image the light is wonderful and well captured.
Have you got an image which you shot yourself that really drove you on?
sorry I was.nt clear initially :oops:Alan 2
Alan RossiterParticipantAh yes, the first lesson of using a forum – read the thread. I’ll see what I can pull up and repost.
Sorry.

climberhuntParticipantJust after I bought my first SLR 18 months ago I got busy taking shots in the local woods. This one had me crawling around on my belly using a bed of moss to support the camera (30 second exposure) and using the timer for shutter release. Imagine my surprise when it got 1st (newcomer mono) in my first comp of the local camera club. Bit of sentimental value, this one…
Rgds,
Dave.plainoldmeMemberA forest that ran along the back of my grandaunts house in a place called Weston, Massachusetts. My first visit was at age 12, for Paddy’s Day. It was still snowing it was that cold, and my mam suggested I take my dads old Fuji STX-2 out with us, and I took this without even thinking. She showed me how the camera worked and I just snapped away. When I got the developed shots back I kinda thought that maybe I could end up being even a little good at this, and it went from there.
Scanned in, since edited with a little contrast, and the framing of course. But that’s it.TebbiMemberEDIT : Sorry it wasn’t showing, i run my own site, different ways of putting up photos,
Here we go i hope,
Hope ye like it.
Thank you Aoluain!

2] Upload to Flickr
3] Choose the lagre size in flickr and right click on the image
4] choose “Properties”
5] copy the link like this . . . http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3406/3178616957_c640d6b440_o.jpg
6] go to your post in PI click the “img” button
7] paste your copied link
8] press the “img” button again.
Hope this helps!
Everyone else, dont be afraid to share them.
justaguyParticipantaoluainParticipantjustaguyParticipantThe spark flew in about 30years ago. I got this Ricoh camera of my dad because I went to had my hair cut.( he hated long hair. Being a proper cop)
so the months after that I shot everything that moved or didn’t move. But I got a few nice picture with a (female) friend of me. She still has them i think, but I didn’t see them in years. I will ask her cause she is coming over this weekend.Over time I lost interest. also because it was pretty expensive as a past time. But now with the whole digital thing its more affordable.
Now just waiting for that shot with the real wow factor
KWBarbsParticipantGood thread.
For me it is quite recent and involved borrowing my brothers 400d. I have always had a basic enough compact for snaps, but it was 5 mins with a DSLR that sparked the interest in photography. I just pointed it in auto mode and got this shot of my daughter….. yes, there is a million ways to do it better but it was the huge leap forward that the DSLR gave me that got me hooked.
Kieran.
BMParticipantKieran, do the decent thing and get a DNA test. She’s far too cute to be your daughter!
EDIT: I want to meet the mother
