Don’t be an early adopter you’ll end up crying, apparently recalls over wifi antenna being to weak to pick up signal, wait for the 3g version in 4 months by then they will have ironed out all the problems or most of them.

Yeah I have heard that the early ones will be full of glitches and to wait a while for the usual product updates!
However I dont think sales are slow as was said by Greenie Meanie! From what I heard they are sold out in the USA!!

Think you’re right, sales turned out good but there were no silly queues like the iPhone release

a few property and wedding photographers I have heard from purchased a few of them, and say that they have already made the cost of purchases back in new business quotes.

basically people will spend so long flicking though the portfolio on a laptop, but on a more interactive screen you find people will spend longer looking through it.

If I buy one I will only be looking for it to be wifi enabled not 3G, no point as for me it will only be a device for showing to new clients

Bare in mind that if your website utilizes FLASH for slideshows or galleries, you wont be able to show people your site on it. I’m developing my website in HTML / CSS to work around the FLASH limitation but most of the high end photo hosting sites use FLASH.

I’d love to have one myself, but would prefer to show my images through a projector at a larger size and work with lightroom on the fly, marking up and making selections.

That said if someone can develop an album making application that allows me to drag and drop the images into the album in front of the customers, and make changes on the fly without having to send them proofs I’d definately reconsider.

    I do want one though…

Got one today. I can imagine using it as a portfolio. Really happy with it. Anyone else get one?

Got mine a few weeks ago up north :D

Download the Guardian eyewitness app, daily photo from round the world.
Also Adobe Ideas, no other stand out apps for me. Photos are great on it.

If you want to encode movies use DVD Shrink then a encoder such as Handbrake. Put Private Ryan on mine, savage.

Printing on dead trees is only an option these days.

As long as my customers are prepared to pay for proof books, I’m quite happy to print them off (or pay someone else to print and bind htem for me). Realictically, i’m aiming at album sales with anywhere between 40 – images chosen from sometimes ten times that many shot. Apart fom the cost of printing out images that will ultimatelt end up in the bin, I’d need a truck to lugg aruond that many prints at a decent enough size to show the quality. with a projector, I can even set it up so that we are projecting right onto the wall that the final framed photo will be hung on at the actual size. Bigger images, means better quality results, no matter what app your using on yor ipad, they arent going to get any bigger in size.

I have no idea why you directed this post at me. :? Maybe you dont understand the difference between proofs from jobs and a portfolio to gain work. Which is what I commented on .

Almost all the photos I produce are on line, generally my pictures at best get put in a brochure but even with that in mind the web versions are more important.

So for me the iPad is a great gadget and way of showing my portfolio, it has already paid for itself

Maybe it is not for everyone or the od wedding photographer who thinks he is gods gift….. But I am happy with it, and no one has been upset with me showing images on it rather than in a huge book
