kavanadbParticipant
Hey guys, I’m new to this site, I had a look around and there seems to be a really good standard of photos here. I’m a student, my name is Desmond. I’m just back from a trip to Iran and have a few pics that i hope made it worthwhile! Here’s a few of the better ones :D
Thanks for looking.
Hope you like em, the rest are here if you like;

nfl-fanParticipantIn a bit of a rush.. but looks like beautiful work there Desmond. I’ll have a proper look later on a revert.
fguihenParticipantbrilliant. technically they are fantastic. none are overly cluttered, lovely exposure and processing to give an arid feel to the images. framed and cropped perfectly also.
compositionally they are even better. I have stared at some of these for 10+ minutes, and i rarely do that. i particularly love the ones of the shop workers asleep on the floor of their stores. its a side of iran I never even contemplated could exist. i only know the country for war from the news. the age of the men, the way the shops are specialized ( selling only pots and pans) makes me think that this man has devoted his life to his craft. he may have a workshop through that door in the back. his father prob taught him how to make pots. his age and the excellent pots show his expirience. the fact that he sleeps on the floor of his shop suggests that he devotes most of his life to the shop and his craft. amazing image. likewise with the other one of the sleeping man.
I also love the woman in the temple ( if it is a temple) says so much with such a simple composition.
I could comment on each of the photos like that but dont want to bore you, only to say that each really tells a story, to me anyway.
you have a gift. Its rare im so taken aback by photos. well done and please keep posting your images here for us all to admire.
MartinOCParticipantExcellent set, really enjoyable, I will be looking through all your trip photos.
My fav is the one of the motorcycle driving away, but they are all great, you really captured the beauty of the place and the daily life of its people.In August’s National Geographic the main feature is ancient Iran, your photos are as good as whats in the magazine.

fguihenParticipantMartinOCParticipantnfl-fanParticipantHad a good look through these this morning… really nice work indeed.
The light in some of them is fantastic and I see you used Picasa so no effects I take it.
I really like the last one.. but 1 and 4 stand out for me also.
I’m not sure about the B+W entries… they throw off the theme of beautiful light that is common in most of the shots… perhaps these would be better posted on their own. Still fine shots.

kavanadbParticipantWow, i’m delighted to have gotten feedback. Thanks everyone for taking the time to write.
fguihen – you’ve absolutely made my day, i saved up all year to afford the trip in the hope i could get some interesting pictures and it’s reactions like that that made the hours and hours slaving away in Tesco Greystones worthwhile! (I’ve quit now thankfully!). You were spot on about the pots and pans man, that was a workshop in the back, and i could hear another guy working back there as i snuck up on his sleeping friend! Everyone i talked to who worked in crafts learnt from their father and most of the little shops like these in bazaars, especially the ubiquitous carpet shops, can be traced back hundreds of years.
MartinOC – Thank you! thats a strong compliment! I saw that issue as soon as i got back and boasted to my girlfriend (who couldn’t come with me) that Iran was the newest hot place to visit and I was of course, a trendsetter :P ha
nfl-fan – Thank you very much, I really just use picasa to upload, though i will admit i did some slight touching up in lightroom, i like vignettes to center the image and add a bit of depth, but i try to use them tastefully, and the glaring midday sun in july in Iran can be a bit of a bother so the sixth picture of the workers has had its curves adjusted, but i always try to make it as natural looking as possible when i do things like that. I’m not a fan of “photoshopped” looking images.
As for the BW, I have colour versions of the two shown that might have been more appropriate, i just preferred these versions while editing and didnt spare much thought to the overall. Good tip, thanks.Here’s a few more from the same trip;
Alan RossiterParticipantGreat set as has been said.
I particularly like the last one on the first set – ironic that the people passing are probably smoking Marlboro, wearing Levis, etc. I’ve seen Ciaran from PI showing images of Iran here before and seems to be a beautiful, if not misunderstood place. Lets hope rumblings in that neck of the woods keeps it that way.
And welcome to PI.
Alan.
Harry LimeParticipantWhilst these are individually great, they make a really coherent and spectacular set (theme-wise, compositionally, in the post-processing and colour-wise) which is the most pleasing thing, I think.
Liam2673Participantfantastic, first one especially, there is such a great sense of calm and order in it (though presumably in a market there was a great deal of hustle bustle around him). Must be a great place to visit, am jealous!
LoGillParticipantthese are excellent .. I wish you would post them individually though – or even in pairs.. they deserve to be looked at in more detail and I feel people will just scoot through the thumbnails this way .. Keep them coming :)

KWBarbsParticipantI only noticed this set now. Absoutely brilliant. They are totally absorbing and each brilliantly framed – you can easily craft a story for each picture, full of interest without clutter. I’m no expert, but for me I really like no.4 in the first set and the last one (the football and the boy) in the second. I bet you think it was worth the effort with a result like this.
alancotterParticipantI’m seriously jealous… for one, i always wanted to go to Iran and 2 these are excellent shots… well done kid..
richiehatchMemberFeck how did I miss these…. absolutely stunning….! I’d find it difficult to pick a favorite out of this set.. Bloody brilliant…!
