RichardTMember1st is my favourite nice pp nice and sharp too
Im not trying to be harsh im tel;ling the truth but
#2 #3 #4 seem quiet shakey? Are they tight crops of the orignal?
They also aren’t too sharp either.
If they were they’d be top class shots so keep it up :DguthrijParticipantI love the shot of Billy Bowden. The others do look a little soft otherwise they would have been great shots. I am off to Edgbaston tomorrow for the Test match and would be happy if I can capture a few like these. There are not enough cricket shots on this site. It is the greatest game ever!
Cheers. John
Punk RockMemberPunk RockMemberAre these sharper?
The pitch in Trinity was a lot smaller then Clontarf CC so I was nearer and didn’t have to crop as much.RichardTMemberI do agree with guthrij they would be very good shots if they were sharper
The other shots are sharper but still soft. Its ashame the sport you pick is played on such a huge pitch :P….
Maybe you should look into a 400mm f/5.6?They are cheaper than the 70-200 f/2.8 and are L primes and iv seen shots on here which are very good from it!
Either that or start shooting basketball of something on a small court.
Btw i really like the other shots of billy bowden on your pix!

A cricket pitch isn’t as massive as people make it out to be
Never been to a cricket game so i wouldn’t really know lol
But i do remeber seeing one in tralee on google maps :shock:kensutzParticipantThat is a cricket pitch sandwiched in between 2 rugby pitches and one of the worst grounds to play at in the country.
RichardTMemberCabt place that at all cant even think where the rugby pitches are might have a look for it next time in there.
Sounds like im not missing out on anything thoughpositronMemberNice shots! I think some of the crops could be better – fix the horizontals and add more room to side where the action is etc (for the subject to move into etc). Cricket is no easy game to shoot – especially if you want to shoot action in the outfield (brilliant catches, fielding efforts etc).
I didn’t know this was on, or I would have been there! I have only attempted Cricket once, ever – and it was with a 300/2.8. In any decent sized cricket pitch you need at least 300mm reach. 400mm would be ideal, but I was fine with the 300mm + 1.4x. Photos on my flickr stream (top right, a set).
Punk RockMemberIreland are playing again in Clontarf on Thursday agains Scotland and it’s a full international.
I am in work but thought I’d let you know.Punk RockMemberJust checked your photos and yes I’m very impressed with them, next time I’m going to leave more action going on in the pics and not crop as tight.
I look at other peoples pics and they crop them tight and I’ve become too influenced by them.
Btw if you had the 300mm 2.8 and the 1.4x you had a lovely reach of 420?
How did you get your hands on a 300 2.8? They cost a fortune!positronMemberThanks PunkRock, I am working too.. unfortunately!
And yes, 300/2.8 works really well with the 1.4x. Those shots are from Stormont in Belfast, and I think the ground there is average size, but I was right at fence, so that made things easier. 300/2.8 is way too expensive for me too, so I borrowed it from someone who posts here often – and used it with 400D.
Punk RockMemberGonna try and go for at least an hour or so in between breaks!
Not sure what weather will be like though!
