I went to protest & also to document. I was up against the barricade looking at the GardaĆ & watching & their
reaction to the protesters. I became fascinated by their expression in the various situations that developed &
how individually they reacted to the people.

Documenting a growing national issue amidst the masses. Nice to see some documentary photography with real substance, well done John.

    great shots John!

really like them all, as you say great expressions and really nicely picked out with the short depth of field.

if i had to pick a weak one it’d be the last –

maybe crop out the floating lamp poking in from the top of the frame
darken down the shadows to make the guards into silhouette rather than the kinda sorta way they are now?

i do like the way the lamps in the left are white and he long dramatic shadows come down the pavement

    Thanks for the comments all.
In regard to the last Isabella, I asked a Garda if he would mine stepping aside to allow me to get the shot & he obliged
which surprised me a little taking into account the atmosphere of the crowd towards the GardaĆ in Kildare Street.
Obviously in these situations you have to get what you can when you can & I’m reasonably happy with most
of the shots but I’ll do things a little differently for the next protest.
