Is it genuine…………

MDCPhotographyParticipant
I am not naming any names at the mo but I bought a canon 24-105 L Series lens a few months back and I am now getting very edging about it authenticity, is there any way to find out if it is 100% genuine or a good copy.
It came in the proper box with all the right documents. But I have been told that the copies are really good.
aoluainParticipantI think you are suffering from a Genuine Canon monday morning
quality control issue !I have read various reports about many canon lenses including this one
that although it might be an L lens it does’nt mean it is going
to be absolutely brilliant. There are copy to copy variations.Sorry to say !
I dont use canon lenses any more. I think their speciality is
long telephotos. They do make some fine L lenses in the shorter focal
ranges but as I said earlier . . . sample variation.I wonder what the chances are of getting a copy [if there are copies out there]
which is actually better than a bad genuine copy ?A
aoluainParticipantIf you bought it locally, try bringing it back for exchange
and explain the problem . . . chance your arm.some frightening reading . . . if anyone cares to take the time !

randomwayMemberguthrijParticipantFirst thing to do is check the serial number on the lens. You will find it on the edge of the plate where the lens fits into the body. It should be U followed by another letter then a number. This link gives more details

If the number makes sense there is a high chance that the lens is kosher. Another idea would be to weigh it and check with the Canon specs.
Good luck.
