Is it time for my walk?
-
neilwhiteParticipant
Caught the wife napping when she could have been taking the dog for a walk!
Appreciate any C&CMarkKeymasterI think you’ve captured a great little moment there Neil.
The conversion looks a bit flat to me, lack of contrast.
summerdreamnMemberneilwhiteParticipantThanks for the comments guys.
Mark – this was just a very quick conversion and I probably should have spent a bit of time getting it right.
To be honest I think I preferred the original colour version of this one. I’ll stick it up later and see what ye think!
Cheers,
NeilRavenAshMemberMartinParticipantVery nice shot. I agree with Mark about the conversion. Had a play in photoshop and i think it could be processed better
Photoshop suggestions:
Bring in the right level to widen the range (will brighten the image)
Create a very slight s shape curve (will up the contrast and give it some ump)
Dodge the dark parts of the image with the range set to midtones and highlights (will brighten and balance the image)
Small crop off the left and top
Will post my take on a post process if you wantMartin
DenverDollParticipantThat’s a lovely shot.
Do listen to Martin’s advice for improvement. I’d love to see it again as I love the feel of this.
Very sweet capture :D
Shar
neilwhiteParticipantMartin, i’d love to see your take on this one.
Here it is the original with just an auto levels done , I kinda prefer the colour onePixelleMemberOoooohh yes, much prefer this version!! Lovely rich tones, sheen from hair, fur, upholstery, wood.
Perhaps blur the right background a bit?MartinParticipantNeil here is my take at a post process to B+W. Like the colour version also
neilwhiteParticipantMartin, I like the conversion and when put beside my conversion makes mine look completely flat!
Have to get my head around using the channel mixer for the B&WwjklewisMemberMartin, what a difference the conversion has made to this photo I think its time fro a tutorial.
Great job.
John
PS Neil I like the colour version too
MartinParticipantGlad you like the conversion John and Neil.
This is my normal process for doing B+W conversions (also use the LAB colour mode every now and again, There is also loads of B+W conversion techniques on the web. Also look at setting the white and black points in the curves tool)
1) Bring in the right and left level to where the graph starts to rise. This will give the image a full range of B+W from white all the way to black
2) In channel mixer set it to monochrome, set red to 35, green to 28, blue to 37 (this will mimic Tri X film I am told)
3) Create a very slight S shaped curve in the curves dialog (will up the contrast and give it some ump)
4) Dodge the dark parts of the image with the range set to midtones and highlights (will brighten and balance the image)
5) Small crop off the left and top with the crop toolThats it
MartinMarkKeymasterGreat in colour Neil and Martin’s b+w conversion is well done also.
Martin: Good one on the Tri-X, I’ll give that a shot myself!.
Neil: There are a few conversions listed on the site here. I’ll have a look tomorrow for the particular posts
and post up here for you. (Think they’re in the Tutorial section).neilwhiteParticipantThanks for all the comments and advice guys, really appreciate that!
Martin – I remember seeing a list somewhere before of different film types and how to mimic them with the channel mixer, i’ll see if I can root it out again as I didn’t pay much attention to it at the time.
Mark – I’ll have a root around here for conversion tutorials but feel free to post the links to any other threads you come across.
