I took this shot at an exhibition in City Hall, Dublin. Is it a fashion shot though?
I used a point and shoot camera which accounts for the flash.AliParticipantHey Jools :) Your primary aim was to show off the dress so it’s definitely a fashion shot. I think you shot the dress at just the right angle and i like the way you managed to get the three models in .
There’s just a few things really i would take into account if i was shooting this. The lighting is very very harsh and although there’s no way you would have had a softbox handy i think it would have been a better option. As a result the flash has also left a big shadow behind. As a rule, they say when shooting dresses you should shoot the entire dress. Now we all know that rules are meant to be broken (god knows i break all of them) so ignore that statement if you like. :) I hope this helps.
joolsveerParticipantThanks Ali for your critique. If it wasn’t for this forum I probably would not have thought of shooting dresses and costumes when I came across them at this exhibition. So it has opened my mind to another subject range.
In this shot the use of flash, in my opinion, is not as overpowering.AliParticipantWell you probably chose the most difficult aspect of fashion and that’s shooting clothes without models :).
Fingers crossed we’ll get the Fashion shoot on the road and get you into the studio directing models.
I think the only way is to jump into the deep end. :)deSuinParticipantIt may be a fashion shot in the sense of the model and dress,, but i read a different picture here..if you use your imagination it appears like the lady has a stiff neck .. arching and straining her back to see whos decending the stairs ..
Thats the picture i see.. but then thats the wonderful thing about an image .. it’s what you see in it that matters most.
