JDM Allstars Round One
-
paddymcgrathParticipant
Just a small selection from the 2,500 shots from the first round of the 2008 JDM Allstars Triple Crown Series that took place today at Teeside Autodrome, Newcastle, UK.
Hope you like :)
BrickeeParticipantdejosheaParticipantVery nice, excellent photos. Really like the one of the R33 with the flare from the lights.
Big FellaParticipantSuper shots Paddy, panning at it best, as Jim said “A feeling of being there” well done.
Stephen.
paddymcgrathParticipantI broke into the 1/20th’s this weekend so was quite happy with that, aiming for 1/6th’s with 50%+ keeper rate before the season is out.
Cheers guys :)
jb7ParticipantpaddymcgrathParticipantjb7ParticipantVery good-
you wouldn’t consider some sort of sidekick gimbal thing? Some of these are very nice-
and you are going for a high percentage-j
paddymcgrathParticipantI hate the feeling of leaning on things or using monopods, feel very restricted and it ruins the movement. Love crisp sharp pans but don’t want to get obsessed by it either and spend too much time trying to get mad pans when I could explore other shots.
nfl-fanParticipantI think #1 is really brill.
I’m not a car fan… or a car expert for that matter… so differentiating 12 car photos in the hope that some will stand out is not easy. That’s no to say they aren’t impressive, they are, but I enjoy #1 more. High Energy and lots of WD40… pretty cool. Sweet conversion and nice depth.

I love getting feedback from people who don’t really like cars too much, its actually so helpful to try an understand an audience that needs to be reached. Can I ask what would you perceive as an interesting style for motorsports and stuff ? I’m going to have more shots in a gallery up tomorrow maybe if you wouldn’t mind having a look through them ? I’ll post the link here as well :)
nfl-fanParticipantPaddy… I’ve never been to one of these events so forgive me if I sound like I’m talking through my arse but I reckon your looking for 3 core elements here:
1. The Cars
2. The Crowd
3. The Environment – This is what you’ve captured in #1. Garage, Equipment, Hardware etc.
(4. Never hurts to throw in the hot chicks too)John
Edit: Actually.. I have.. I went to the Car Show in the NEC Birmingham about 5 years ago.
jb7ParticipantLong lists of similar pictures leaves me a bit cold-
better to put up the best one, of a set of similar ones-
I suppose that’s coming from a photography viewpoint-If this was a car site,
then people probably wouldn’t be able to get enough-
but if I see one of a type…The differences in the colours and the markings aren’t going to do it for me,
and it really doesn’t matter about the content- to me-
anything that seems formulaic is going to be a turn-off-
no matter what type of photography it is-If you’re playing to a captive audience, who are interested in the details,
then the more the merrier-
and perhaps there are many who are interested;
I photographed cars myself when I was younger-
but sometimes it does get a bit repetitive-My opinions only-
I realize I don’t have the most populist of views-j
paddymcgrathParticipantCheers guys ! Its so hard for me to try think what its like for people who don’t like cars, so I really appreciate that ! :)
