Did anyone go and see the Koudelka exhibition at the Gallery of Photography during the Summer ?

Just wondering what folk thought of it.

Personally I was disappointed at not seeing any prints on display. The slide show (digital I think)
with him speaking in Czech didn’t quite cut it for me. Didn’t stay around to watch too much of it…

I walked in, was watching the video for a few seconds and got bored… walked out. I went there to see prints, but anyway…

Off topic: I was lucky enough to see a Robert Capa exhibition in the Ludwig Museum in Budapest a few weeks ago. 48 original prints and another 900 or so prints made off the original negatives. The big disappointment there was that I realized that most of his war photos were staged… even the d-day ones. You have to see the prints to believe it. It’s worth a trip though, if you can find a cheap flight.

Even though the show was not exhibiting prints ,the work of Koudelka at this period in time represents one of the most remarkable captures of a historic event by a gifted photographer whose images were shown in a way that I think represented the quality of his work in a very effective way.
Glad I saw the exhibition twice.

I went there too to see prints and was disappointed to see a slide show. Don’t think they were taken with projection in mind. On the other hand, the images were striking and one of the advantages of the slideshow format was that the story was told the way it should be told. What I mean to say is that when printed one could go and view the story ‘counterclockwise’. Fascinating to see how the people’s attitude towards the invasion changed and the whole atmosphere got grimmer towards the end of the show.

I guess Gerry I felt that I could have watched a video with sound on my PC
and got the same as at the exhibit and not travel to Dublin to do so :)
