BMParticipant
If you are interested in a genuine Manfrotto bag, have a look at page 61 of http://www.manfrotto.com/webdav/site/manfrotto/shared/pdf/catalogues/GB_MANFROTTO_photo_catalogue2007.pdf
to determine the right one for your set-up – the table provides the right bag for the combination of legs and head that you have. Then check e-bay.Alternatively, work out the folded length of your set-up and check the e-bay suppliers.
I have found a good quality bag excellent for kneeling on in all sorts of locations – beach, bog, back garden!
nfl-fanParticipantTripod bags, especially Manfrotto, don’t seem to be very common on eBay. Any other sources?
BMParticipantThere are a lot in the UK and some in the states. I thought there would have been more from HK/china. Try http://search.ebay.co.uk/search/search.dll?from=R40&_trksid=m37&satitle=manfrotto+bag
Calumet have some: http://www.calumetphoto.co.uk/ctl?ac.ui.pn=search.Search&query=tripod%20bag
I have definitely seen some from China recently on eBay, but can’t find them now.
BMParticipantnfl-fanParticipantThere’s a few eBay sellers selling Manfrotto bags… but not to the Republic
BMParticipantI forgot about their reluctance to sell to the south – I think it is partly the extra cost of shipment, but is more likely to be laziness on their part!
As concerns the HK suppliers, surely it really makes no difference to them, other than the shipping arrangements that they are used to?
If there is anything you see that you really want, you can “post box” it through me – I will receive and forward it on.
If you are going to the PI meet in teh Mournes, order now and I will bring it along.
nfl-fanParticipantThanks for the offer BM. I’ll be in touch should you kind offer be required.
Would love to head to the Mourne Mountains… but it’s so damn far away from Wexford it’s not even funny. Would have to make a weekend out of it… but nearing the final stages of my new house construction at the moment so schillings are slim. Everytime I hear mention of the Mourne Mountains on PI I tut and think to myself ‘Jammy B*s’
BrickeeParticipantI went and bought a folding beach chair with a bag. the bag works great. cost me $7. :)
randomwayMemberI don’t know what’s a tripod bag for?? I got one with my tripod, but I just put my lightstands and umbrellas in it, the tripod seems useless if I have to fiddle with the bag when I want to set up for a shot. When the wind blows it away, it sinks into the wet sand on the beach or there is no place where you could leave it, you realize how useless it is. I wouldn’t recommend using one, just put a strap on the tripod and that’s it.
BMParticipantGood point, randomway. The bag protects the tripod when banging about the boot of my car. Mine has a good shoulder strap that I use to carry it around (and I repeat its benefits as a kneeling mat!).
Having saidf all of that, I am in the process of purchasing a new carbon fibre one that will fit in or strapped to my rucsack – about 14 inches when folded.

I use central heating pipe insulation taped to the top-section legs and a cheap lens bag as a hood over the head! :)
BMParticipantThis is drifting towards subject-matter for the low fidelity forum!!
Any other ideas for cheap and cheerful solutions – tripods and wider photography?
nfl-fanParticipantWell… if your budget is that low… you could always check this out:
ThorstenMemberNot so much about low-budget for me but about convenience and comfort. With the insulation wrapped around the legs, I don’t have to take the time to take the tripod out of a bag or put it in again. It also makes it more comfortable to carry – if it’s cold the insulation is more comfortable to hold than the bare metal of if I decide to carry my tripod on my shoulder, it acts as a cushion. And when the lens bag is off the tripod head it acts as a bag for holding my lens and body caps, which might otherwise get lost quite easily!
jb7ParticipantMust admit Thorsten-
that does sound more cheap and nasty than cheap and cheerful-
There are better materials for the job-
a closed cell foam-
more akin to the materials actually used on tripod legs-That insulation is not the most resilient material either-
Now saying that-
I did a similar thing on my monopod-
but I used the handle covers from a pair of broken garden shears-
tape not required-j
