I would like to hear your oppinion framing the digital images. I mean giving big thick frame around the image itself, when the image is intended only for viewing on the screen. I never did it, because I think that it is some kind of cheating. The picture should outstand and attract the viewer by itself.
But in this case I felt like framing the picture and I do not mind it, I like it more than wihout frame… maybe I am changing my mind :)
Of course general comments are welcome.
Thanx
Brian_CParticipantFirstly, looking at the smaller image I didn’t really like it. But the bigger version I like much better. Regarding framing and borders, I really don’t think it’s cheating. When you present an image for sale, competition or examination you never see just the photo, they are always mounted on cardboard or framed. Why shouldn’t they have one on a monitor? I suppose it’s personal taste. It’s about representation.
absolonParticipantThere are some very good pictures on your homepage Tomas, but I don’t see the beauty of this one. It’s too grey to my taste and the half of the frame is filled with sand, grass and sand.
wavydaveMemberHi Tomas,
I quite like this shot although it may not grab everyone. I like the sand and grass and the figures walking in the distance…brings back some memories for me I guess.
As far as framing for the screen is concerned my feeling is that you should frame it as you would like to see it. Present it the same way that you would if you were putting it up on your wall. I see no problem with that at all. Which brings me to the frame you have used for this particular shot… I feel it is just a bit bland. Something a bit darker may well show the picture off better. You might even try darker with a thin white line just as an idea…(what would you do if you were printing it as a poster?)

ExpresbroParticipantI really like the perspective on this shot Tomas. But those blown highlights in the sky keep grabbing my attention..and I’m sure that isn’t meant to be the case. Also I agree with Dave on the frame..something darker would be better I think as the current one is very close in colour to the subject.
Overall though I like this….the detail in the foreground and the way the people in the background are still relatively clear and as I have already said..the perspective.
Nice shot 8)

tomas.tornyosMemberHi,
thanx for replies. I agree that this shot is not for everybodies taste. Well maybe it is better to do things (like photos) that people either like or dislike, than things that are just OK :)
I like the comparison with the poster. Yeah, I would put the picture in a frame if I were to print it as a poster.
The thing that confused me was that when you have a real fine print, you put it to the border, which is different material, quality and it is 3D. However on the monitor it is just flat and the same as the image.pete4130MemberI really quite like this. I find its a balanced image and the simplicity appeals to me. Nothing too much to delve into. I think the “less is more” works great here. I wouldn’t mind seeing a punchier version though, just for comparison. I find the subtle tones really give the impresion and texture of fine soft sand and the willowing grass gives a nice relaxing atmosphere. It would look nice as a large print, perhaps on canvas for some added texture.
