keeping your camera dry while hiking

im starting hiking and want to bring the camera (400D , and 2 sigma lens’s ) along. I dont want a dedicated camera bag as i need to carry hiking gear also. what backpack or method of keeping the camera dry would you recommend in this suituation??
Errr… common sense says put it in a dry bag… whether that be a dedicated camera bag, hiking rucksack or 22c Dunnes Stores Bag then it shouldn’t really matter??? Or you could get a waist bag to carry the camera and two lenses.
teacher always said i needed an injection of common sense. no , i had already considered ziplock bags and all that. thats fine for now, but i want to get something dedicated to the job, be it a dedicated hiking backpack thats waterproof or some camera protection to go inside my standard hiking backpack. a ziplock or dunnes plastic bag wont provide any protection from bumps and the like also.
just asked the question to see what expirience in this area has thought people. remember the only stupid qustion is the one that is not asked.
I use the lower section of an Orion Trekker with a plastic bag around it inside a larger bag if i need my camera and other equipment, This way it keeps your equipment dry and protected from knocks and bumps
I don’t know much about hiking or how much stuff you have to carry along… but I’m sure you can get a “compartmentalised” hiking bag that’ll take the gear.
yep, you can. they can work out to be quite expensive. not adverse to paying for one if it is recommended.
If you dont mind spending the cash on it, I would recommend getting a dedicated bag, Especially with irish weather and rough terrain. It may become invaluable.
And always get one that is bigger than what you need right now.. you’ll end up with more kit.. and end up needing a bigger bag. Trust me on that…
cool. thinking about it your prob right, better to pay now rather than go with some gimicky solution that ends up getting my gear damaged. and im in this predicament as i purchased the first camera bag that fitted my gear when i got the camera a few moths ago, which is now useless for what i need! thanks guys. il give the great outdoors in the city center a look
just to close off the topic, i ended up getting this to put my camera in while in the backpack.

its guaranteed to be 100% waterproof. it will be inside a backpack with a waterproof tarp also so should be fine.
