Seriously perfect timing in these. The first in particular. If I was that player, I would be so stoked to see so clearly how I kick the ball.

A few things that I notice..

They look a little soft overall. I’m not sure whether the camera missed focus, or they just need some more sharpening applied. Its correctable I’m sure. Whether in post, or with a new camera!!

I’d watch the background next time too. The lone coach/dog walker stands out. I see they were shot at 70mm and f5.6. I’m not sure what lens you were using- perhaps you could open up the aperture a bit more to throw the background out of focus, or shoot at a longer focal length?

Getting lower would help too, so that the bottom of the hedge doesn’t run through the players heads.

Bear in mind these are ideal world improvements. They are super images that tell a story and inform the viewer about how these kids play. They are cropped really well too. I’m making suggestions that could make them even better next time.

You really captured the moment alright, especially the first.

Try switching from the camera’s action programme to shutter or aperture priority. I see you were at 1/640 of a second. Try getting it up to at least 1000/1600 with a wide open aperture to blur coaches and dogs. I had a 350D too so I know they’re not great at a higher ISO but you could try going up to 800 to get a crisp shot.

As Pete said definitely get lower, on your knees.

This is the kind of great feedback I have been waiting for on my photos and is the primary reason I joined.

For your info I was using a Canon EF 28 135 IS USM with a Canon 350 Rebel XT.
I take a lot nof GAA and sports photos. Yes, I know I need a bigger faster lens!

    Many thanks.
