Kidding around…

This is Robbie and Caroline, whose wedding I’ll be shooting next month,
so I had them over to the house last night for a pre-wedding portrait…The idea is to have the photo in a really wide mount at the hotel reception
for the guests to sign as they arrive, a sort of memento of the day that
can be framed later and hung on a wall instead of the usual Guestbook;
it will be presented something like this…I doubt if this is the actual photograph I’ll use for mounting (I have a lot of
weeding to do before I decide) but just wanted some feedback on the general
idea, presentation and high-key processing…Here’s one more, just mucking about…
All comments appreciated as usual…
Rob.

Yeah they are called signature frames, really started in the states as an add-on from the pre-engagement shoot. They look great especially as you said in a big mount. Only advise i would say is that you leave pencil’s rather than pens out when getting the guests to sign and get the hotel to take it in straight after the reception as the more drink is consumed the more people feel the need to draw & write full length essay on it :D Nice work!Alan RossiterParticipantNice idea Rob – I’d love to have had this for my own wedding. The images too look so well, might I say professionally presented!!
Alan.
GCPParticipantI have done this a few times. I have also used black mount board and a gold pen for the signatures. Works very well.
Did one last month for a school:- The Principal was retiring so I did an ariel shot of the school with the Hi-view system and then using the black mountboard all the parents and students signed around the picture , I finished the framing and this was one of the presentations made to him on the night. Went down very well !steelydanParticipantlousyParticipantHi Rob, as it happens I am doing a wedding on the 1st May with a friend (it’s his gig and not mine) but he is doing the same with the pic and a white board and the guests sign it. I thought it was a great idea and actually thought he came up with it but I see I was wrong.
Your pics really look good and I have to say the couple really help because they look so happy and that’s a bonus when taking these type of images, of course the photographer has to be good too

ExpresbroParticipantJaysus..everyone is shooting weddings now….I better get moving
Rob…that second shot made me laugh out loud when I saw it…excellent…the expressions..especially hers… are priceless.
I know you wont be using it on the day..but definitely give them that one…it’s class.

RobMemberThanks so much to all of you for the positive feedback on these,
really appreciate it.Rob.
easParticipantHi Rob
Great shots, great to see them having fun. A good indication that things will be fun on the wedding day.
As for the idea, I’ve been doing the exact same thing for a few weddings. It goes down a treat.
A couple of suggestions. ( edit : some already pointed out above I see)
1) I use either gold ink or silver ink (on black mounts) or black ink on white mounts. I leave 2-3 pens on the table with the mount. The worst thing that can happen is if people start using different pens with different colour inks. ick.
2) I leave a pile of blank comp slips with my logo + contact details on the table. This gives some scrub paper for people to practice on with a subtle but effective way to get my name in the mix.
3) I get an a4 sheet printed with “Please Leave a Message for xx and xx on their Special Day” type thing. I spray mount this on a card and stand it up next to the photo. This also has a small logo on it.
4) I try and put it next to the food or beverage area during the reception. That’s sure to get the most traffic
5) I find a few people to get the ball rolling.
here’s a photo I took of the last one. It’s a 12*8 with a 4inch surround.
anyhow, good luck with it. The photos look perfect for the job.
nfl-fanParticipantNice work there Mr. Graham, didn’t know you did weddings, nice idea too. This wedding photography lark really seems to be a lot more effort than I’d have ever given it credit for in the past.
In relation to the shot… and this may be a totally natural thing but I’ll point it out anyways… the young ladies top row of teeth are significantly whiter than the bottom row… something that jumps out at me straight away. Now, maybe this is the way they are naturally, in which case feel free to ignore this, but at a guess I’d imagine they were PS’d?
All I know is that they grab my attention as they are by far the brightest part of the photo excluding the background and they don’t match up with the bottom row. Feel free to correct me.
Shameful observation… I know.
RobMemberNever expected so many comments, and I’m chuffed…
eas: Thanks so much for all those valuable tips, a lot of stuff there
I’d never have thought of. Looks like I’d better go and design some sort
of logo and letterhead for the day. Glad you like the images…nfl: I didn’t know I did weddings either  Not something I’d ever
planned on doing, but I was asked and found it difficult to turn them down.
This will actually be my first attempt. As for the teeth, I never noticed that
myself, because there wasn’t any processing here. The only processing
used was some eye enhancement for both, minor skin healing for her
(no smoothing), the removal of a Ralph Lauren logo from his tee-shirt,
and the addition of a white vignette to finish off the high-key process…Rob.
nfl-fanParticipantGreat set of gnashers so!
What sort of setup (light, backdrop) did you use for these RG? I might, at some stage, invest in a cheapish kit just for family stuff.
Nice work. J
