Kilchurn Castle

MartinParticipant
Picture from my last day in Scotland in April. No more recent stuff to show cause i haven’t been out much, anything i have taken is not up to much, trying to park the IR for a while getting a bit bored of it…
Anyhow, really like the sky and path in this, one reflects off the other, I think it guides you nicely to the castle entrance but maybe thats just me…

Nikon D70 Infrared and the Tokina 12-24…
mgstParticipantFantastic sky Martin and the path leads you through the shot to the castle lovely processing.

latchikoParticipantLove that sky! There’s so much happening up there that it’s almost worthy of it’s own image. The path leading it’s way towards the castle is lovely. But there’s something about the castle that doesn’t do it for me. As the central subject, with everything else leading nicely towards it, it seems to lack a bit of oomph when I get there. Maybe some localised contrast might make it pop a little more. Sorry for the minor negative – I’m a big fan of your IR work!
liveforphotosParticipantI absolutely love this one. It has lovely leading lines and an exceptionally dramatic and compositionally beautiful sky. The castle looks eerie and the single tree beside it looks wonderful. I could see myself as a traveller on that road experiencing real approach/avoidance issues. Should I go there? It looks creepy! But no, it looks beautiful too! What to do?
I’m not sure if opening up the shadows on the castle area might improve it, or darkening the castle completely to make it look more threatening. It might be worth experimenting with the image a little bit more. But it works well for me, just as it is.
MartinParticipantThanks all for the feedback
latchiko, liveforphotos: Thanks for the feedback especially about the castle, this is something I was thinking myself but wanted to see if anyone else was thinking something similar. In the original RAW there is allot of detail in the castle so I will have another go at the reprocessing.
My other niggle about the shot is that it is possibly a bit too busy.
I’ll try to have another go tonight processing it and repost
Cheers
MDeeboParticipantcathaldParticipantGreat job as usual Martin the sky is superb and i can see where the guys are comming from about getting more detail out of the castle
but i think that sky will dominate anything else that is i the picture if anything i would be with liveforphotos on the darkening the castle to give it an scary feelAny castles around this area we are going to at the weekend Martin
