Now why do these animals look at the camera with these expressions? They really make you want to hug them right before they bite your head off. Beautiful shot although this guy looks a little sad now that really makes you want to hug him.

Dublin Zoo of course. This almost didn’t happen because the first time i went up to their enclosure the feckers were asleep in the most unphotographable location. So i went back around to the other animals before deciding to give the lions another shot and i think it was a damn good idea because when i got back up there, he and a lioness were sitting calmly in their hut thing right in front of the glass. I took LOTS of shots but i thought this was perhaps the best.
It’s an unusual shot but it works. Did you apply the blur to the mane afterwards or was it in camera, i.e. small DOF? He is a very charismatic cat. Beautiful mane which would have had him shot in the wild.
Why anyone would want to shoot such a beautiful animal i’ll never know. I did an eliptical selection around his face and then feathered it by 100 pixles before doing a gaussian blur on the area outside the selection. There’s also an unsharp mask and curves adjustments on the eyes to bring them out more. Good ole photoshop. :D
