taken this morning, freezing cold today. the light was really flat when i took them. by the time it got any good the kingfisher had flown away and then i had to go. hopefully get something better tomorow.
They’re not the greatest photos ever but I’d love to get this close to a Kingfisher, must have been a great experience as well as a cold experience. :) Hopefully you will do better tomorrow, the second shot would be excellent if it was sharp.

it sure was cold, couldnt feel my toes when i finished even with two socks on. the wheather aint looking to great tomorow with the snow, could be interesint though
Ah it is great to see Kingfishers, sharp or not! You must be delighted that you saw it,
half the battle is knowing where they are, then its just down to patience. A female by
the way the lower beak is red on the female. What part of the country are you in?Lovely to see them, amazing little birds. In the 1st shot, I’d give the bird a little more head room so it’s not so close to the edge of the frame. If you’re back tomorrow maybe think about this. The 2nd would be a cracker if it was sharper. Good luck tomorrow, hopefully we’ll get some more images. :D
I agree with previous posters, it’s great and almost a privilege to be able to get shots of these colourful birds and you have done well here with #1 especially at 600mm and 1/20″………/Mikka
thanks everyone, id life to try get the second shot a bit sharper, ive watcher them a few times in this location before though and this was the first time i saw it hover like that,it sometimes hovered over a small pool, but today it was going pretty high and holding the same spot for a while. these were taken in dublin city not far from a very busy road. the light was very poor when they were taken but i couldnt stay to long, ill have some more time next time so ill try stick around a bit longer for better light.
ive read that they dont like coming out during bad/cold weather. it flew off after about an hour or two today. im wondering if its just coming out for a quick bit of food then going back to its roost, anyone any ideas?

They would still have to feed throughout the day, like all birds they need food everyday to
survive, they would be out in all weathers, in bad weather probably longer as it wouldnt
be so easy to find food.Good luck :)
went back down today. light was a good bit better, the ground was covered in snow though so it was a whole lot colder. the second shot is cropped by about 50 %.

well done. love the second shot.she shows up pretty regularly, at first light at the same spot most days, spends the morning hunting there unless something spooks here. gonna go back again during the week and try get some different perchs.
