Sheesh.. I’m really not happy with my lenses.. I really want to change from a 70-200 to a 70-200IS…
MartinParticipantTwo great shots, really nice. Lucky git getting into these gigs with your camera…
PitmaticMemberlousyParticipantNot really into ‘gig’ photos but #1 is a cracker… love the beam overhead.
Not much wrong with that lens.Pat
latchikoParticipantGreat work again Sean. It’s always nice to see gig shots in colour. How did you find working with the 70-200? Was the venue bright enough to allow you to shoot at 2.8?
seanmcfotoMemberVenue was bright enough to shoot at f4 ISO 800 even.. Concert lighting is always way brighter!
Those were on the 24-70 2.8 mostly, I couldn’t hold the 70-200 still enough! IS is on the list… Any takers for the 70-200 2.8 L? :)
stasberMemberNice set though I’m swayed more by the second shot but then I guess I’ve had my fill of gigs ;) . It’s clean, has good detail (no doubt thanks to your shutter speed) and nice dof/separation, and the right hand is frozen. My only niggle would be her left hand that’s cut off but sure I’d have the same dilemma, leave it in or crop it out (or if already cropped I don’t know what’s lingering outside). Not too mad on the hue of he skin in the first, but then I also have an aversion to magenta and stage lights do this sort of thing to you all the time…
seanmcfotoMemberSpot on Stas.. I prefer to keep the original crop unless I specifically shot with cropping in mind. Tonights Blondie images are loading and we shot from the mixing desk, not the pit. So I used Live View on the 40D, mounted on a tripod, to focus and shoot. I was using the 50-500 at 1/100 f5.6 1600 with a shutter release to minimise vibration. Because the live view X5 and X10 focus is the centre, I composed with the intention of cropping. I’ll post one here tomorrow (maybe the weekend-I’ve a hospital appointment, 2 mixing gigs in the afternoon and then Ash and The Dandy Worhols in the evening, so tight for time!
Sean.
stasberMemberI’d be interested to see how you get on with the Live View actually. Have only used it ‘in anger’ in overhead or awkward crowd positions. Could have done with it (silent shutter operation) at a gig last year – one of my best pics from the gig was also the loudest & most awkward as the classical guitarist had just finished the last gratifying pluck and you could hear a pin drop. And the KLATHUMPKLICK of a 20D.
Dancing Thru The Ages previewed tonight to a (very nearly) full house and a standing ovation, shooting them tomorrow night again (premiere) then off to Wexford over the weekend for more dance. Might post up a few early next week given the chance.
Hope the hospital appointment goes well.
seanmcfotoMemberIt’s cool for sure, I’ll be using it a lot more now that I’ve figured it out.
