L Panels, A and F Panels, Stars and other distinctions…

Just to echo what other’s have been saying: Is there any practical benefit to having a bunch of letters tacked on to your name?
I don’t think it means you’re a better photographer. I’m aware of one person who has a string of letters attached to his name, of which he’s very proud, but for all of that he won it purely on his technical ability. The pictures were creatively horrible and mostly consisted of photos that most of us would be too ashamed of to post.
It doesn’t mean you’re a more successful photographer. I know people trotting around a set of numbers who are weekend warriors who’ve never sought to employ their photography. I’m moving to Las Vegas in two weeks and I’m doing my best to line up as much photographic work as I can between now and then. However bad some of the experiences I’ve been, I’ve already been hired as a photrographer, and I’ve had photos printed in several publications in Europe.
Unless it’s something people do just for the sake of doing it, rendering it pointless.
seanmcfotoMemberI hope that’s not me Mark :0
I don’t quite know how I feel about distinctions at the moment. I failed the L the first time, more due to lack of understanding of how panels work, than image quality. I’ve posted the L panel that passed here already. I did the workshop recently and I was taken from 30 odd images down to 11 for the A. Now some of the others were great images of guys, but the speaker felt a female only panel would be more cohesive (not to mention how much extra work that is!).
I was enthusiastic about doing the A, but now I think I’m going to spend a bit more time working out what I really want to do for it. Besides, like most of us here, my style is only developing and changing. Some of the things in the panel are a year old and different than what I currently shoot. I could probably put together a great concert A panel for example… Maybe I should :)seanmcfotoMemberFensterParticipantIt honestly wasn’t aimed at you, Sean. I haven’t been able to get through to this forum because NTL are a horrible ISP.

This place is sooooo serious. Hard to figure out, I have to say. Does anyone take photos for the fun anymore?
I’m kind of nervous that I might wake up and find this post deleted or a PM in my box asking me to refrain from something.
Am I that odd?
In fairness, I think that you’ll find that most members would disagree with this statement.
The forum is what you make of it. If someone wants more lighthearted discussions, they need to start some.
The General Chat are is full of them :) Aside, there is also nothing wrong with being serious about your photography.
Takes all sorts.Sure there are rules as most good forums have, they’re there for the greater good. Thats a fact of life on any forum.
In fairness there are few rules and few instances where I have to moderate.
No rules and I’d spend my life in here being a referee ;) I hope I have enough smilies in this, if not here are
a few more :) ;) :DBack on topic:
On the ideas of having joining the IPF and/or having a PI distinction, they’re certainly worth thinking about.
randomwayMemberIs there a chance that this site could become an official Club? Me and I think, lot of other members would join it. It would bring us into a position to apply for distinctions and also, to call ourselves officially member of a club. Sorry for going off-topic.

…I might even be tempted to join myself. It’s probably the only club I’d be willing
to attend on a regular basis……that is, of course, if I was allowed to join
Rob.
