Lab options

Hi,
Just got a film camera recently and am wondering about my options for developing. I’m a beginner so I’m not really looking to do my own darkroom work at this point.
1/ Given that I’m sure there will be lots of unusable shots on my first efforts is it possible/usual to get a film developed straight to CD (or failing that contact sheet) i.e. save on 36 overexposed/underexposed/out of focus prints.
2/ Any recommendations on a lab in Dublin?
3/ Is there anywhere that does development by post i.e. like it used to be years ago, mail off the film, get back a set of prints. I have to say I’d love the convenience of not having to physically go to a shop. At this point I’m not looking for anything advanced in terms of developing the film.
Any other thoughts appreciated.
Paschal.
jessthespringerParticipantHi Paschal,
maybe one of the best things you could do would be to buy a copy of black and white photography magazine, there are loads of ads in there offering the service you are looking for. Most of the articles are related to B&W film and printing as well.
Another tip would be to use B&W film (I’m taking it for granted you will shooting B&W film) with a colour process (C41) such as ilford XP2. You would be able to get this processed in any lab that processes colour film. They may also be able to scan it to CD for you.Hope this helps,

Nope, just starting out in photography and for various reasons am going to start with film. But thanks for the tip on magazines – strangely it hadn’t crossed my mind.
Thanks,
Paschal.thefizzParticipantRing Gunns, they don’t have an online ordering facility but I’m sure they would post negs/prints/CD’s back to you.

elwoodprintsParticipantI saw this guy on ebay.co.uk that does exactly that – well for B&W anyway!
Just post off your film and he makes the magic hamster work and volia – posts back the results – his prices were pretty standard as well!
