Lacie Monitor

Did anyone ever have any difficulty with warranty on Lacie monitors. Have Lacie 324 monitor for 10 months and it went on blink.. Having great difficulty getting them to repair or replace it.
BarkerPhotographicParticipantApparently they have a three year warantee, so in theory there should be no issues…. that’s in theory! First thing is, if / when returning you display only send them the bare minimum (what you think is actually faulty). Their small print states this. I know because I once sent them back a faulty hard drive with power supply and packaging and had only the actual drive returned. I got no satisfaction when I looked for them back and was told I should have read the small print – That’s why we don’t deal with Lacie anymore – It’s actually the only Supplier account we have ever closed. (There were other issues also).
What issues are you having? What are they saying to you?willie macMemberHi Paddy Barker,
With regards to the Lacie Monitor. I sent it back via Calumet in Belfast where I bought it. It was bought in April 09. It was given in to Calumet in Belfast on 24th Febraury. I telephone on 4th March to Calumet to find out how it was progressing. To my horror it was still on the premises. I emailed Lacie in England to this effect. I got a reply saying it was being sorted. I emailed on the 15th March again but got no reply so I telephoned them. They did not have anything listed under the serial number I had given them. I emailed them on the 22nd March again but without any sucess. I contacted Calumet who told me that Lacie had being sending them emails asking them to try different things with the monitor. By this stage I was getting annoyed with the situation. On 30th March I was told by lacie that they would contact their technical team to see what was happening. Eventaully I contacted Calumet again on the 1st of April and fair play to them they said that they got their buyer to contact Lacie and that the monitor was being replaced and was shipped on 25th March to Calumet. What they did not say that it was sent to Milton Keynes in England and lay there until yesterday, when Calumet told me they had requested it to be sent overnight. As yet there is no sign of if. It seems that you had problems with the same company. I will not be recommending anyone to by a lacie monitor in the future as their after sales service is useless. Thanks for taking time to read my “moan”. Cheers

SheldonParticipantFirst off Willie I understand your frustration as a photographer being without a monitor for so long is a huge problem and one that needs immediate action.
However, as a LaCie re-seller here in Dublin I must question whether the problems lay entirely with LaCie or with the re-seller?
I note from your comments that the monitor lay in Belfast for quite a while and then on return in Milton Keynes for a while also. Could it be that it lay at the re-seller’s head office which I believe to be Milton Keynes where they might have central dispatching?
LaCie would normally make suggestions via emai to test the product as mentioned to make sure that it needed base support in case the problem could be corrected locally. Could it also be that these were not carried out in a speedy manner? In defence of LaCie I must also say that any monitor issues that we have had have been sorted out very quickly and they have also proved to be extremely reliable. It is true that LaCie operate a bizare system for hard drives that are returned in that cables, discs, packaging etc are not returned, even if they are accidently included in the packaging and that all drives are re-formatted as part of the testing. They do however clearly state this on their returns paperwork.
Willie if you do change your mind give me a call and in addition to LaCie monitors we can sell most other brands of monitor too.
willie macMemberHi Sheldon,
Thanks for replying to me. I actually drove to Belfast yesterday, Saturday, and called with Calumet. In all fairness to them they explained the proceedure that was done regarding the monitor and showed me the emails that were sent and received. The faulty monitor was still on their premises awaiting collection when the replacement monitor arrived. It is clear from the emails that it took five emails from Calumet to Lacie to convince them that Calumet was a reseller and not an end user. However, I can expect deliver some time this coming week taking into account the Easter holidays. I will keep you informed.

willie macMemberHi All
Just to let you know that I got replacement monitor from Lacie on Thursday 8th April. You were right about the cables etc as it came with just the monitor. Good job the old one was still in Calumet, so I took the cables etc from that one. Thanks all for your interest.
Regards
Willie
