Land Ahoy (not HDR)

    Folks,

Here’s one from a few weeks ago that I have revisited. Any comments or suggestions? I had trouble processing the sun in this one and I’m not sure if the black expanse in the lower left works. I feel it is balanced but I’m still not sure overall.

You can see the rock pinnacles of the Chimney Tops on the headland and Inishowen Head in the distance.

In the lower right you can also see the cruel talon of Lacada point on which 1300 men of the Girona lost their lives.

    Andy –
It’s a nice image, although I feel it’s lacking someting – not sure what. Perhaps if the Sun was further out to sea it would balance better. Possibly the closer crags are less interesting compared with the Chimney Tops, and suffer as a result?

Certainly a salable image, and I suspect my critiques are highly subjective.

    Cheers,
    Peter

    Andy,

Nice photograph, although I do feel that there is a little too much black expanse as well. Not sure there is much that can be done though, because if you crop some of it away you will end up loosing the detail of the sea crashing against the rocks, in the lower right hand corner (which I personally like).

Shooting into the sun isn’t easy – you did well to control it.

I think the black area’s just too much in this one Andy. I’d be tempted to suggest a panoramic crop, but the top is fine, and there’s interest in the bottom right which would be lost

    Thanks guys,

I tend to agree with you. The black left hand corner is quite dominant.

I don’t think any crops help me out here unfortunately.
