This is in shercock in co. cavan, the composition is ok, the colours are ok, what would make it from an ok pic to a really good one?? any help would be great.

NIce shot!, nice and serene (is that how you spell it?). If I was to change anything on it I would crop out some of the top part of the sky. gp panoramic on it from the bottom up if you know what I mean. Nice shot though, stillness is captured well

Before I even got to read the first reply by rasmith32, I thought the same crop would work. If you dont mind, I took the liberty of altering it the way I felt worked for it. All Ive done is the obvious crop and a few tweaks to both Levels and Curves to bring up that sky even more. By the way, it’s more than an ‘ok’ shot. As I was working on it I was kinda wishing it was one of my own images

very calm and serene. Lovely shot and agree that it was already more than an ok shot to begin with.

    Hi Sinead,

I think this is a very nice photograph and looks like a location
    that would deserve repeated visits.

I love the colour in the sky and the reflection and the longish
exposure has created a nice reflection in the water.

I kinda found myself wishing for a little detail in the trees as there
is a big black area in the RHS of the picture but in the circumstances
this would have been difficult to achive and might also destroy the
    lovely atmosphere of your photograph.
    Just me musing …….

    All in all well done.

    John.

Id add a little detail in the trees if you can get it from the raw file. I wouldn’t crop

    Hi Sinead,

love the colours, though I think I might have cropped to remove some of the black on the right hand side

But I really want to pick up the tripod and run to the jetty to take the clouds that should look good from over there!

I can’t help thinking that a contrast mask might help, as long as you have a copy of the image in RAW format.

    Here’s a good tutorial: http://www.petercox.ie/tutorials/contrast_mask.php.

Sometimes a contrast mask gives weird results, so it isn’t right for every image, but I think the foreground, including the jetty, might benefit in this case.
