Learning photoshop CS5

photoemtParticipant
Hi,
Just wondering if anyone can recommend any good DVD’s, books or courses to help learn photoshop.
I’ve dabbled with photoshop elements in the past but am now moving up to CS5.Photoemt
shutterbugParticipantYou Tube have a video for nearly all photoshop manouveres! Usually quite detailed
and good to get you started, but I am sure there are better ones out there also. :)mehfestoParticipantIf you know what you’re looking for YouTube cannot be beateN. It has everything.
Granted a 16year old mumbling American voice can be a little off-putting, but I can’t knock it.That said I work in a bookshop on the weekends and would recommend the Adobe ones themselves. Very in-depth and detailed, though a tad pricey. You can get an overview one, or a ‘for photographers’ one. The latter being a bit more user friendly. There’s another brand with a wee dog outline on the cover (name of the brand escapes me now), but it’s the only third party one I’d recommend. The others are too basic or overly technical (going into how the formulas behind the mechanics work, etc).
iophotoworksParticipantMartin Evening’s ‘Adobe Photoshop CS5 for Photographers’ is worth having. Its really well written.
There is also one by Scott Kelby called ‘The Adobe Photoshop CS5 Book for Digital Photographers’. Also excellent.
You can’t go too far wrong with either of those.
photoemtParticipantThanks for all the advice,
I think I may have to sort out my internet (its 3mb download) as youtube is frustratingly slow on it, constantly pausing to refresh.I might take a look at Martin Evening’s book, as I can grow into it. I’ll also search for “the one with the wee dog”.
I intend to use lightroom for my raw editing and photoshop for my pixel editing, as I like the batch processing features of Lightroom. At the minute I have version one and don’t want to udate until version is released later this year.

3Mb Broadband should be more than enough for youtube videos at normal resolutions. My guess is that you’re not really getting the 3Mb that you’re paying for. You can check you true speed at http://www.irishisptest.com/runmyspeed.php.
I’m currently paying for 7Mb downstream from eircom and getting around 1.3Mb :?

photoemtParticipantThanks for that tip DougL, I suspect you might be right. At the minute youtube is a nightmare for me.
crampParticipantTry http://www.lynda.com excellant detailed tutorials and very detailed but you have to Pay
paulParticipantThe Adobe training site is also useful – http://tv.adobe.com/” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false;
Kbeg3ParticipantI’d also recommend Lynda, I got a free 30 day subscription last year and it was great
