Hi Eeyore, I see what you were trying here.
You’re using an EOS 1000D, try setting it to P or Av modes as that way you can choose where to focus using the focus points yourself. Just prees that button in the very top right back to access the focus point menu while in P or Av mode. In Auto the camera chooses what it thinks is right, heere the camera got it wrong.
