Advise required. I’ve been seeing some great results from the Lee Big Stopper and I’m wondering does anyone know if it works with the Canon 50D. I’m assuming not, as all the reviews I’ve seen/read say Canon 1D/7D etc.,

    Hi Mardai,

I can’t see why it wouldn’t work with any camera tbh. You might need to get a shutter release removte if the shutter times
are slower than the camera can automatically provide.

    Hi,

There is no reason why this will not work on the 50D. Provided the 50D has a BULB mode (which most cameras do) then you will be ok. However this is not a screw on filter such as the B&W but is instead a square filter that requires a holder to mount it to the front of your lens. So you are going to need the Lee filter holder and a screw on adaptor along with the filter all of which can be quite expensive. As Mark has already mentioned you are likely going to need a remote shutter release as exposure times can go over 30 seconds quite easily with this filter attached. I would also recommend that you have a good tripod ….

Lee kit is a substantial investment – holders, adaptor rings and then the filters. The big stopper is about £100. It’s a great bit of kit (by all accounts) – as you would expect from Lee.

You could start with a B&W 10-stop filter – screw-in so no adaptor needed; maybe a bit of loss in versatility.

I just got one few weeks ago (after a 3 month wait). You will definitely need to be able to attach a cable release to your camera (some models can’t). My exposures so far have ranged from 2min to 8 min, and I enjoying experimenting with it. You need to get a separate holder system aswell, so the cost adds up. I think Conns cameras are the only suppliers so you can price it on their website.

Thanks for all your comments. We invested in a ND grad starter pack which came with the holder etc., there a while back. I’m only really getting to grips lately with the filters but I have to say I like the look of the shots taken with the Lee Big Stopper. I do have a remote and a couple of good tri’s as I am very keen on night photography.

Thanks for all you’re help. Information good to get.
