Leinster 30-0 Munster

paulParticipant
I know a few Munster fans weren’t very happy last night, but a great result for all the Leinster fans. :D
What a game.
miki gParticipantOh no, we will have to listen to Nossie now.  Well done to Leinster.
flynnyParticipantFlipsakeParticipantAlright Paul,a series of great shots you captured last night. It appears you had many good chances to
shoot the action it being a match that was played at such high intensity, too high for Munster on the
night it appears :) .Had a look at your website as well Paul.Plenty action to be seen there, even for the
impartial looker who did’nt get the final score. :)NossieParticipantHi Paul.
How’d you get these shots? Obviously you have some kind of field pass right? coz I’m behind shaggy on that break.
Also what lens & settings do you go with?I don’t usually go to games to shoot them so a few tips would be nice. I lost a tonne of shots during LvM due to lack of testing/experience/right gear. I ran a load of shots at iso640 and sadly a lot of lost action, later when it was black out I whacked it up to 1600 and scraped a few through at 1/100 wide open sometimes.
As I mentioned elsewhere I hate looking at a game through the lens but I’m kinda getting into it. The kid next to me got way better shots with my gear but he didn’t know how the focus lock works so he lost some fantastic body slam shots that he waited for.

Also what lens & settings do you go with?Yeah, I’m accredited with Leinster for the Magners League and with the ERC for the Heineken Cup games.
Those shots were 300mm f/2.8 with a 1.4x TC, and the camera set at f/4, 1/640 sec, and ISO 1600.
I’ve loads of tips on sports photography on my website.

f/4 + 1/640 +1600 !?
Are you in manual (and pulling the raw for 2 stops?)? Or is 1/640 what Av gave you?
I gave your tips page a once over. You say go for Tv, so what if the light isn’t there like the LvM match?
… I just delved deeper into your site. Fair play to ya for your informative effort there.

Yep, shooting manual and raw. I added maybe 1 stop in PP, many of the shots I’m only adding half a stop of exposure in PP.
I’d say that shooting Av f/4 (max for lens combination) would probably give me a shutter speed of 1/200 sec. But, shooting Tv at 1/650 would have f/4 flashing to say the shot was underexposed.
It’s just a matter of knowing your gear and knowing how to get away with it.
In general, go for Tv, with a good shutter speed, unless you’re comfortable enough to shoot Manual, and adjust on the fly.
brownieParticipantGreat shots Paul…love the one of Horgan
