Lenan Fort

I took a trip today out around Clonmany and Lenan (Inishowen). I’ve never been out to Lenan Fort and my brother told me it was worth the trip as its the most unusual place…and this shows you why. Lenan Fort was one of a number of defensive forts built by the British to defend the deep-water anchorages of Loch Swilly. It closed in 1952. There isn’t very much left…a lot of stuff has been demolished but the strange thing about this site is there are all these single chimney stacks standing tall against the elements. Its so strange looking and within the setting of Lenan they are very dramatic. This is one photo from the set I took.
This image was downsized for Flickr so its a bit soft.
PitmaticMemberinteresting I have heard of it but not been up there yet its on my todo list :) there are some fortifications there but i am not sure how extensive they are now.
Also a fishing boat ran ground there recently dont know if its been moved yet.
mtmccallionParticipantthe forts are still there as they are solid concrete but i didn’t explore through them as i was on my own and was a bit creeped out! I wasn’t down at the beach either but never heard anything about a boat…need to check with the locals! :)
mtmccallionParticipantAlan RossiterParticipantThe softness in the first doesn’t detract in any way to the image – sort of adds if anything. As you’ve worked on the image to emphasize the chimney, and features in all other images a sharpness would not be the best route. Even some foreboding clouds may add a little more impact.
I like this set a lot – there my sort of image. The vignette, or selective darkening is fine although a bit less selective in some where the lightness foreground to background disregards distance (3rd image, last selection). If you tried to convey isolation and a stark landscape you certainly achieved it with these.

b318ispParticipantI’m not a big fan of the first Mari, a bit central for me. However your second set posted are much better – the vignetting works really well.
slang61ParticipantNot too keen on the first pic. very soft – out of focus!!!
the second lot make a nice set.
as said before the vignetting works well in these.STU
DeeboParticipantYes second set work really well. Liking the last image best, the light coloured window frame contrast well with the dark surrounding

The focus is spot on in the hi-res original…this was downsized for flickr (800px) so has made it softer.
Thanks for the comments :)
