hi all,i just got a nikon d5000 dslr camera with a 18-55 mm lens as i am new to this and there is a bit to learn so am looking a little(big) bit of help,as the kit lens that came with the camera is not great for zooming at any thing too far away i was looking for something a bit stronger, for doing landscapes, wildlife and things like that, not looking to spend a lot, something second hand or that would do as i am only learning,if i new what was right for me then i could a look out for it here, and on ebay and amazon, any help would be great, thanks

if your on a budget the sigma 70-300 or the tamron 70-300 are cheap and chearfull and work quite well I have both and I think the sigma is better but thats my opinion :)

Jessops were doing the tamron for 99 or 129 cant remmber the sigma is about 170.

I’d agree with Pitmatic, though i know you can pick up a tamrom 18-200mm for about 180euro off simply electronics (google it) and its an excellent lens f3.5 to f5.6, pretty fast focus and light enough. Means you’d only need to carry the one lens around and you’d have a nice multi use lens.
I know you can also probably get between 70-100 for that 18-55mm.

Oh and i’d avoid amazon, they look good but you can find the same lenses cheaper in other places, i’ve been through alot of their new stuff and i’ve found that most of it can be found cheaper on other websites. Accessories however (flashes, reflectors etc) are often cheaper there and they have a huge selection. Hope that helps :)

And the sigma 70-300mm isnt great. slow tracking, noisy and heavy as heck (i owed one for about a week and sold it, hated it) theres budget and then theres just, horrible lens design.

Personal experience only there :) hope it helps :)

You may also have a look at the Nikon 55-200 VR which sell at £135ish, and you could probably pick one up 2nd hand for £60/70

I also highly recommend the Nikon 55-200 VR, had it about a year and love it. There are plenty of 2nd hand ones knocking around ebay for about 90-100 euro.
