Hi, iv noticed what seem’s to be a small white hair inside my canon lens, an there’s a few black dot’s when u look through the lens itself,
is there anywhere that clean’s lens an preff close to cavan, or has anyone any ideas how to sort it out.MartinParticipantDoes it effect the pictures your taking? If not don’t worry about it till it does…
Have a had a few lenses with slight dust on the insides over the years. Unless it effects the picture I just save my money and just keep shooting…iophotoworksParticipantHi Dave,
I wouldn’t worry too much about it. It’s very common with all lenses and even more so with some zooms as the movement of the barrel can operate like a vacuum and suck air and small particles into the lens itself. Weather-sealed lenses like some of the Canon L range would be slightly less susceptible to this however.
Dust inside a lens is usually far from the plane of focus so any impact would be so dispersed that generally, it would not be visible on the image. In very rare cases a larger particle might cause some additional internal flare. If it were very close to (or on) to the rear element there’s a higher chance that it might show up.
You could get the lens disassembled and cleaned but this would be expensive and doesn’t mean that you won’t have dust again after that. It also needs to be done by a professional in a clean-room environment otherwise more dust could be introduced.
PeteBedellMemberHow does an eyelash get inside the LCD screen on my Canon G10. It’s a brownish one so is probably not Japanese.
dave350dParticipantThank’s for the replies, the mind is now at ease, as nothing is showing up on any images
Gone2themoonParticipantIts very annoying to see something like that inside the lens, and knowing its there every time you use the thing. It drove me nuts when I spotted the first evidence of dust inside my new Canon 28-135mm, but after reviewing the images it put my mind at rest a small bit, as there was no apparent effect on the images. What really put my mind at rest was after reading an article where a guy had tried to clean his own lens and ended up with more dust in there than when he started out. So now it doesn’t really bother me too much seeing the odd spec or two on my lenses, they’re there to be used. Not admired.
