Hi guys
having gone full frame I have just one suitable lens a 50mm 1.4afd which i think will be a bit short for portraits has anyone got good suggestions for a lens for portraits and product shots.
Also is there an affordable ultrawide for full frame?
solid opinions appreciated :)
SodafarlMemberMMXParticipantUmm… 85 f/1.4?
Regarding the ultra wide – what exactly does the word “affordable” mean to you? Nikon D700 isn´t really an affordable camera… the cheapest (ultra)wide lens I would use with this body is Nikkor 16-35mm f/4.
MartinParticipantAs MMX said, how much are you willing to spend?
The 16-35 is a very good option if you have the money. A cheaper option is to pick up a good condition 17-35 2.8, a superb lens…
Spend your money on the lenses not bodies….
PitmaticMemberI plumped for the 16-35 I opted for this over the 14-24 as it was a little cheaper and i can easily use filters with it lordy :)
The Fine PrintMemberif you’re happy with a manual, non-chipped option (but I doubt that, having forked out big bucks on an expensive body), I personally love the 105/2.5 AI-S. Also a 180/2.8 of any ilk is very nice.
Edit: I LOVE my 17-35mm f2.8 AF-S (which I bought s/h for €650 I think), by the way, but you already have that FL covered.PitmaticMemberrandomwayMemberI used to shoot with a modified 135/2.8 qc lens (about 40 years old) a lot. It doesn’t have the sharpness of modern lenses, but it’s not anything like a cheap lens. Not a portrait, but here’s an example. Street shot at night… http://www.flickr.com/photos/randomway/2061433139/in/set-72157594477794486″ onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false; Mechanically the old Nikkor’s are far superior to the modern ones in my opinion. They look and feel great.
If you are looking for a modern option, go for a 70-200/2.8, that would be the best. Or if you want prime, your options are 85/1.4, 105/2 or 135/2. The last two are getting old at this stage. I have the 105/2 dc and I can say it’s a fantastic lens. Here’s an example: http://www.flickr.com/photos/randomway/2310681559/in/set-72157604022439198/” onclick=”window.open(this.href);return false;
The Fine PrintMemberRe: Wide: Actually I forgot to mention the 20mm f2.8 AF-D: It isn’t expensive and its small and good.
