Lens Repair?

Anyone here do lens repair/servicing? I’ve a Nikkor 18-70 that is stuck on the 24mm mark, I hear that these lenses are known for this fault; it would seem that an internal screw comes loose. Tried to sort it but still stuck. The lens produces excellent images and while being stuck on 24mm is not the end of the world, there is surely going to be an occasion this year when I could do with 18mm. Willing to pay a reasonable amount to someone reputable but not willing to pay the , surely, exorbitant rate that Nikon would be asking.
