Lens Suggestion

Hi,
Looking for a suggestion with regards to purchasing a lens.
I shoot with a Nikon D7000. I take shots for a couple of local sports teams and have a 80-200 f/2.8 lens for this.
I am just looking for a recommendation for taking team shots (or trophy presentations etc). I have a Sigma 10-20mm f/4.5 EX which I have used but the lens is too wide for team shots. I would imagine something line 12-24 2.8 but that is WAAYY out of my budget!
Any suggestions of a good compromise?
Sigma do an excellent 17-50 F2.8 lens for nikon Dx. I had it on my D7200, very sharp.
