Lense for sports photography?

Hello everyone, I’m currently thinking of buying a new lense for my Nikon D80 and I would really like to purchase one that would help me improve my sports photography, possibly one with a good zoom as I enjoy taking photographs of GAA, soccer etc, I currently have only my kit lense which is 18-135mm. Any suggestions would be hugely appreciated. Go raibh mile maith agaibh.

For sports you need a fast lense:-

120-300 2.8 sigma (3,000 euro) This is good for GAA, Rugby, Soccer, indoor sports like Snooker, Ice Hockey etc

Use a Tele Converter 1.4X on a sunny day you can get 2,000 to 3,000 at f4.0

You need a fast shutter speed over 1,000/1 in hurling

But some wexford newspaper photographers use a 80-300MM f4.5 lens, but you will get a image on a good day

low light you need a 2.8

    Sigma 100-300 F4
Though not as fast as the 120-300 2.8, it works very well for outdoor sports (haven’t tried hurling though).
It is also much lighter and cheaper.

    I have a Sigma 100 – 300 F4 for salt ?650 if interested. It was only used twice before I bought a 300 f2.8.
