Superb wildlife shot in my opinion, and ususual composition. Absolutely love this picture. Brilliant!
carlParticipantA very big welcome to you John and what a picture to start with. This is probably my favourite of your wildlife shots.
BTW if you upload that pic in the gallery section at around 800 pixels wide you can then embed the pic into your posts.
RobertoMemberVery nice shot. Love it.
I would fil up the white space on the left bottom with neutral colour.
This white ‘triangle’ is big and disturbing.LoGillParticipanthmmm … interesting wildlife fact….
Welcome to the forum, i hope you enjoy it
Could be WAY off here – but I would try a square crop on it – to split the white space and the photo diagonally down the photo – But doesn’t that look stunning… and slightly scary

joe_elwayParticipantYou were so lucky to get so close to a wild Leopard. Aren’t they fun to go looking for? You’re just hoping to find that tail hanging down from a tree limb with countless false alerts.
Lovely and sharp. I tink the B/W works …it’s just the white space which is understnadable to expose the cat in the shade of the tree. A closer crop would minimise that.
Were you in the Delta in Botswana?
AliParticipantWhat a gorgeous animal :) Really like this shot John and i really think the treatment of the shot is perfect. You could easily create a nice mask and drop some background into the whitespace – although at the moment, either way works for me. Great capture.
John DunneParticipantThank you all for your nice comments.
I shall try to rework the original to do something with the white space. Sometimes African skies can be difficult. I like the idea of the square crop and diagonal line. Im going to give it a go.
To joe elway. Yes this was taken in the okavango delta. I am fortunate that this was my third African Safari and whilst the abundance is not as good as Kenya or Kruger in South Africa it is without doubt the most beautiful destination. You will get good shots but not as many of them. We stayed in Kwetsani camp which was excellent.
FintanParticipantHey welcome John, I’m always amazed by that shot, given you shot it on the near end of your zoom
mervifwdcParticipantStunning!
Well done on finding her, and the picture is excellent! sharp, composition, exposure, everything.Did you use a BB for the flash? (had a look at the exif). Did you have it mounted high? 500mm at 125/s at 100 iso. That took nerve! I usually bump up the iso as I’m nervous of shake, but you nailed it on this shot perfectly.
Very well done!
Merv.AimeeParticipantwow john that’s one heck of a shot.
Would you post the colour version too? Think it would be interesting to compare them.
