About time I posted a photograph, I suppose! Please forgive my lack of confidence and critique with gusto and recommendations!
This dog (gender unknown, let’s assume female) followed us around the harbour at Dromineer, Co Tipp last Saturday. Very friendly and good company, until she decided to roll over a rotting dead fish, at which point her jumping around ceased to be fun and became more a matter of avoid the stink. Not sure if Nature and Wildlife is appropriate as she’s probably someone’s pet, but she was pretty wild! I took a few photos but this one jumped out because of the pleasing panning effect.
Canon 400D with 17-85 IS at 85mm, 1/20s, f/5.6, ISO 100.
The panning effect works really well, but unfortunately the crop spoils it for me. If you had managed to capture the entire body of the dog in the frame, this could have been a real show stopper! The bright colour of the background seems to work, probably due to the contrast. Something to try and try again until you get that killer shot maybe………..??
I agree it would have been nice to have more dog-behind available and be able to choose to crop or not but unfortunately this is the entire image. In fact the panning effect wasn’t intentional. I figure the combination of ISO 100 and black dog led the metering for Av mode to pick a much slower speed than others in the sequence.
I agree, if you had captured the full body I’d have nothing to recommend to you regarding this image ..
I really love it though :D .. you captured movement really well, the face and eyes are sharp and the panning technique with the background looks really good :)
