The same guy featured in one of Ciaran’s recent posts.
C&C welcomed, as always.
Thanks for looking!
Tim
ExpresbroParticipantDifferent angle and a colour version..but the same anguish and sadness. It’s obvious that this poor kid has a routine that he uses to get money to pay for a habit that is killing him. The one thing that strikes me about this shot is his arm. I noticed it the day we were in town when Ciaran took his shot. It looks unnatural and pale and thin and almost dead looking against his face. All the comments from Ciaran’s shot apply here and it really is sad this this kid is so obvious around town…that two photographers can come across him within a week of each other in practically the same position. Makes you wonder why no authority has not done something about him. Tried to do something to drag him out of the nightmare of a life he must lead. I’m sure Simon and other homeless groups are run off their feet trying to give some kind of help to people like this kid..but in the end..they are only providing small comfort…this child is being failed by the government and society. On a weekend when the biggest news story was about a group of well fed and fit young men playing a game of football in Croke Park..this boys story, and others like him… would obviously come way way down the news ladder.
SANCHOMemberThat’s the sad truth about modern journalism. There’s books and articles and even charts and tables written on what makes it into the news and yes even something has horrible and sad as this is reduced to nothing more than a figure and a statistic by the media. Makes me annoyed that i’m studying for a career in the same industry. But then again the media can of course do their bit and help raise awareness.
ExpresbroParticipantWell all it takes sometimes is one journalist with integrity and some clout to kick the others into action. Maybe that will be you someday Sancho :D
ciaranParticipantYup… like the colour version and the choice of vertical. It’s perhaps a little too contrasty and I’d consider burning in his arm a touch. All in all a very nice shot.
GrahamBParticipantReally well taken shot.
It’s kinda strange though, how come we notice this guy every few days
surely someone who can actually help has seen him by now.
On the photography issue though. I prefer this shot in colour to be honest.
There is something about the aged and faded colour of the gyus jacket and sleeping bag
that adds to the overall shot.
It seems to add a timeline to the kids suffering that I think may have been missing
from previous B+W versions.
