I have recently made a short Sci-Fi film called THE SCANNER. Instead of CGI, all of the special effects in the film were created in camera (a Panasonic Lumix) using thousands of photographs with a 15/30 second exposure. The still images were then changed in post production to imitate the 25 frames per second look of video and bring them to life. The technique is commonly known as light painting.
