Lighthouse, Buoyless version now added…

  • I liked the first one you posted, but now I’ve seen the second pano I like it even more. For me the pano crop works best, and I really like the photo. As you say the buoy adds balance and my eyes like it there, especially with the line in the sea passing through it. Each to their own but to me it deserves praise for being a photo that I would certainly love to have the vision to create :)

    Hi Sinead~~

At least people are commenting…there has been a real deficit of critique available of late.

For what it’s worth…I liked it from the beginning…but I’ll try to replicate it with a salt shaker and a white tablecloth today if I get a moment ok?

    Sinead –
I think they are both excellent – the second panoramic crop would get my vote, but I’m a sucker for panos. I like the additional burning you did to the lighthouse in the second one, although it worked well in the first one as was.

My main critique is get rid of the buoy – it draws the eye from the lighthouse and spoils the serenity of the still water. Once that’s done, you have two versions of an excellent minimalist photograph, which I’d be happy to hang on my own wall. Well done!

    Cheers,
    Peter

That kinda reminds me of a feature they used to do in Practical Photography magazine (not sure if they still do it) where they would do mock up landscapes using fruit & veg. I always kinda hoped it was a joke as using the surface or a watermelon for a ploughed field with a piece of broccoli as a tree was a tad strange in my books. Amazing what you can do at home :D

The second version is so much better!

Peter, thank you! Very kind comment indeed! I don’t do burning though (except in the darkroom) don’t know how (I just know how to make global changes) the extra contrast came from a levels adjustment.

I saw that before too… I tend just to eat my food these days. (now that I have passed the age of 6  )

Thanks all (don’t want to quote everyone) for comments.

I must admit that I wouldn’t be a huge lanscape fan…. (not yet , working on it though) but then something comes along that I really like – this is one of those. I love the simplicity of this image…fantastic and the latest addition (or removal) really works. Another great image with your name on it.

Gorgeous, though I do actually like the pano version with the buoy in it too…

Excellent stuff. Much better without the buoy.

I’m noticing something in the image for the first time though – there’s something going on at the base of the lighthouse on the right. Not sure if it’s a wave, or steps – but it does cause a distraction. I’d be tempted to remove that, too.

But I’m only picking nits at this point. Well done!

It’s a boat Peter… Not sure what they were doing there, I was kinda waiting for them to leave but they hung around for ages.
