Limerick Riverfest Fireworks

mel.bParticipant
I thought I would post some of my photos from the Riverfest fireworks in Limerick this past weekend.
Canon 400D with Sigma 17 – 70. I haven’t done any post processing as I don’t have any software at the moment.
F22, 12 sec, iso 400
F22 12sec iso 400
F22 12sec iso 400I’m particulary interested in the difference between mine and fig (phil’s) photos, also posted in this section. As I mentioned on his thread, I’m wondering if the differences in colours is due to location – I was on the same side of the river as the fireworks whereas phil’s are on other side (& therefore has more ambient light from the buildings behind the fireworks??) or is it due to camera settings or post processing? Mine seem so dull in comparrasion and I’d really like to learn how to improve mine.
Thanks in advance.
Mel.b[/img]figParticipantHi Mel,
I think the main difference between our shots is the exposure. With my sigma 10-20 lens I usually shoot on f16 for landscapes but a quick test shot at the shutter speed I wanted showed black sky so I stopped down the aperture to f6.36 secs iso 400, later I moved to f1013 secs, iso 400. I know some people were shooting on bulb mode and covering the lens between bursts but I didn’t want to risk that and miss the fireworks experimenting.
From where you were the dying light should have been to the left of your shot so you should have been able to get a nice blue sky. Do you have these in Raw format? You might be able to recover in post.

mel.bParticipantHi Phil,
Thanks so much for posting your settings. Unfortunately I was shooting in JPEG. I would normally use RAW + JPEG but because I don’t have any software to process the files at the moment, JPEG is easier. I was using bulb mode also, but not covering the lens.
I do have some photos with the blue sky but they were all taken around 9.30 – 9.45 pm and often with a lot longer exposure (20sec+). Next time i will try a change the f stop more to see what effects I can get.
Thanks for the help,
mel.bjustaguyParticipantMel. don’t worry to much about it. The shots are great. Don’t need to much aftercare.
