Trying to post a bit more, most of photos never see the light of day and I think I need some C&C to help me improve.

Hi Button (Not Jenson by any chance? ;-)),

There’s not a lot wrong with this shot. It’s a nice portrait of a little girl, although she looks kind of sad, as if she’s about to cry.

I think compositionally I would crop this heavily from the top, maybe even into a square format. This places her eyes in the top 1/3 of the shot and gives it a better balance in my opinion.

Maybe a tad more sharpening around the eyes, a little bit of added contrast and you have a very nice portrait.

    Hope this helps

Yes, lovely shot – post more! Robbie’s suggestions are spot on.

    Thanks for the suggestions

and no not Jenson Button :D

She looks so sad because she was trying out her expressions for her passport photo. And to a 4 year old not smiling is sad.

I have made some changes with the suggestions above. I think I might have over cooked it a bit though :?

Well I’d say that has definitely improved the shot. I think I’d crop a bit deeper though, even though it may seem drastic at first. I used to hesitate to crop that way myself, but now I try and go straight there in camera. I think her eyes are still a little too central in the shot, and her eyes are the focal point.

This is much better, I don’t think it’s overdone at all.
