Two night shots of the window display of a curio shop near where I live. Its down a dark lane, very atmospheric, but its hard to capture in a photo.

    Any c&c appreciated

I must have missed these when they were originally posted.

I have to say… I do quite like this… “dinky” and “atmospheric” are the words that springs to mind. Can only imagine that’s it a very dark, quiet shop with only a lonely old man working there… kinda like where yer man bought the Mogwaii in Gremlins!

There’s a lot of dark space to the left of #1… I’m not sure whether it adds balance or throws it off.

Oh… I just spotted that you already mentioned “atmospheric” in your commentary… well that’s good, at least we’re on the same wave length.

Thanks guys, number 1 is my fave too of these two.

Yes there is an unusual old man running the place. I wouldn’t buy anything from there, it might come alive at night.

I too wondered about the darkness, wasn’t sure of the composition.
I think the shot needs the darkness, but it might be a better shot if it was more balanced, ie both sides, but he’d have to change his display…

Thanks for all the replies, there is other creepy stuff in the shop, but these get the light at night…

I’m surprised you prefer number 2 summerdream.
Just for interest here is a wider picture of number 2. I think the characters are not so prominent, and therefore the point is a bit lost.

Well spotted and taken, Martin. There’s just so much detail and the imagination is shaken, never mind triggered.
You could almost imagine this as the inspiration for a novel – horror/mystery/suspense of course!

The first shot is really nice and full of atmosfear. They feel a little art-deco in the style of Metropolis.

“atmosfear” is le mot juste, as they say in France, for that shop. I haven’t seen Metropolis yet but its on my list.

    Thanks Helen and Jonathon

I missed these as well, like them both Matrin, the second is my fave of the two, I especially like the wee think in the bottom left corner with the rabbit ears (a rabbit perhaps?).

I feel like I’m bumping my post here with all my replies, bad etiquette. But I’m happy you spotted that.
That is my favourite part of the display. There is a rabbit in a box, and the cat seems to be eyeing him from above, he’s thinking of eating him no doubt.

These are a break from the norm, I really love the tones and the figures are superb. They work on so many levels, nice work indeed
